So where does everyone else buy clothes for a 12 year old who wears age 14/15 clothes but who doesn't want to wear adult stuff (understandably)?

Would be very grateful for any ideas, style is sort of boho rather than urban? (Anything online and not too expensive would be particulalrly welcome!)
MNers to the rescue again please x

I had the opposite problem - I had a 16 yo DS who was a size 12 & didn't want to wear kids clothes!
La Redoute is quite good for this age group

FairyChocolateDragonsEgg · 05/04/2007 18:59

Thank you Rusty, I didn't realise La redoute did a 12-18 range

Nice hippyish cotton skirts in Gap; kids' clothes go up to quite big sizes there I think; not online though sorry.

janeite · 05/04/2007 19:15

Could she be tempted by anything at Topshop?

JoanCrawford · 05/04/2007 19:16

Don't know the age range but just bought my 13yr niece a great outfit from New Look. Fashionable and very reasonably priced.

frogs · 05/04/2007 19:17

Top Shop; Joe Browns (catalogue); Fatface (ditto); animal; primark; GAP (sometimes).

FairyChocolateDragonsEgg · 05/04/2007 19:19

Unfortunately Gap haven't seen fit to introduce GapKids to my neck of the woods yet but I shall have a look at Topshop and New Look, thank you.

And Oxfam, of course. Never too early to teach them the charity shop habit.

swedishmum · 05/04/2007 23:23

Gapkids may not be long enough. Fatface is quite good but some of the stuff is a bit more for my age group (according to dd). We have this problem with 13 yo dd but have got round it by buying bits from all kinds of shops - H and M, Quiksiver, O'Neill, Zara. Also a couple of independent local shops. There's so much tarty junk to avoid these days. My dd's a bit arty/grunge/green day. Just don't rule anywhere out. She bought a velvet coat from Matalan (!) for a family do and wears it with jeans for eg and a Missoni scarf she "borrowed" from me.

princesscc · 05/04/2007 23:45

How about H&M? Loads of styles & reasonably priced.

WotzsanEgg · 05/04/2007 23:53

I will be watching this as my 10 yr old is tall and into age 12 / 13 yrs and dosen't want to look like a bratz doll !

I find some bits in TK Maxx if I can get time to have a good hunt.

Cheap roxy stuff and like rusty I have used La Redoute. Good sizing, but still get it one size up than you expect.

Would be grateful for help.Have a 7 year old daughter who is tall and wider than average for her age am struggling to get her "normal clothes" not tinsy winsy belly showing tops any ideas?havn't got much money as single mum, been to charity shops but not much choice she is in size 11y or 13-14years in tops and 9-10 or 10-11 if i turn the bottoms up in trousers.Any ideas where i get uniform from have bought her some black and grey trousers from asda they were great but now it is summer weather where do i get a roomy summer dress (red checks)from as they don't go up to 13-14 years.ahhhhhhh!!! help!!!!

WotzsanEgg · 08/04/2007 21:31

notnuftim I know it may not be so good if you are on a budget but Next do girls red check school dresses and go up to age 13 and are very generous. You can order online or in the shop and collect (so no post and Package fees). They last and if you can afford to get 2 they wash very well.

Last year (she was 9) I bought ages 12 and 13. The 13 dress will still be OK for this year.

Have a look on ebay too.

OrvilleRedenbacher · 09/04/2007 09:14

nest go up to an aged 15 i think

also bhs do the dreaded tammy stuff

janeite · 09/04/2007 16:07

M & S usually do the gingham school dresses at fairly reasonable prices and if you buy a size up it should fit next year too. I find that those sorts of dresses look fine from quite long until quite short.

Just had a look for you - classic gingham dress goes up to age 12, max price is £9. The more modern, tunic sort of shape ones seem to go up to age 14 and are up to £7.

They wash well too.

CoffeeCrazedMama · 09/04/2007 17:37

Had this problem with dd1 as she was an early grower (up and out). Agree Gap a good thing as they go up to a 16 years old and styles don't tend to be too outlandish. My dds have found a few good things in the Sophie range at Mark One, though you do have to wade through a fair bit of nylon tartiness to find some decent stuff. Also try larger branches of H & M - their children's range has the odd thing that goes up to a reasonable size and dd2 (nearly thirteen and quite tall) has found some very nice pieces.

notnuftime · 10/04/2007 13:40

thanks everyone for help have looked on there and ordered some hopefully should fit and be ok.
