Straightener recommendations?

My GHDs have packed in, recommendations for new straighteners?

I'm using the Babyliss big brush thing in the meantime.

I have very fine and curly hair naturally. Prone to damage and breakage :(

I have been coveting cloud nines for years and I think I may get them for my Xmas this year. They are made by the guy who used to make ghds apparently which is meant to be why the newer ghds are went as good as the old ones. However at the moment I have a pair of remingtons that were £30 and I have to say they're pretty good for the money. I have really thick hair though so find it takes me ages.

Another vote for Remington.
My Visiq one (which was good too) conked off after 9 years so thought of trying Remington as it had good reviews on Amazon.
It hasn't disappointed me at all.

Ooh thanks and much cheaper than the GHDs. Which Remington, does it matter? I'm looking at the Debenhams sale, they have lots.

This one.
I have short thin hair and works well for me.

I got a pair of cloud 9s for my birthday and I love them! Previously had ghds.

spinduffy · 19/09/2017 19:32

I tried L'Oréal steam irons today and was very impressed!

Piratesandpants · 20/09/2017 06:14

L'Oréal steampod. Products work better with the steam and it seems to do less damage than GHDs. I'm converted! I have masses of thick, long hair.

BanyanTree · 20/09/2017 06:27

I did lots of research on straighteners and decided on Remington Air Plates. I don't use them that often and needed one with a hot temp to do home Keratin treatments.

MynewnameisKy · 20/09/2017 06:48

L'oreal steampod here too. I have very fine curly hair. It manages to still look healthy with the Steampod.

tiggersdontlikehoney · 20/09/2017 08:03

I have not heard of the steampod before. Steam is usually something that makes my hair curl!

I just looked up the steampod, it looks huge!

I have new GHDs and they are awful. In the process of sending them back. My old ones were amazing. I think I'm going to try cloud nines.

LauraAndBaby · 20/09/2017 09:31

Cloud nines, there made by the same guy who made the ghds x

longdaysandpleasantnights · 20/09/2017 09:48

The steam pod straighteners are great but, as you say, big. I loved them when my hair was shoulder length but now it is shorter I can't really use them so have reverted to my GHD's.
I do really rate the steam pod ones if you have longer hair though, I found that they kept my hair straight for longer, and combated frizziness from damp weather.

tiggersdontlikehoney · 20/09/2017 13:54

cant can't say I was overly impressed with the GHDs, they did the job but I seem to have quite a bit of damage at the ends

long am trying to get it below shoulder length, but it is only about an inch below and doesn't seem to grow - or very, very slowly!

Instead of using straighteners why not try a Keratin treatment? When I do this I don't need to use irons. I just blow dry my hair and run my fingers through it and it is straight with a bit of body. I used to pay loads at salons for it but just did it myself after reading up on here about the process.

Rainymorningblues · 21/09/2017 08:24

Those recommending the steampods, I have curly hair, like really curly/ frizzy hair. Will steam pods actually KEEP my hair straight?

I've been using GHDs for the past 12 years and previously, they've been the only thing to keep my hair straight, the other ones I used to use would straighten it, but 20 mins later it would start curling again?!

tiggersdontlikehoney · 21/09/2017 08:27

Banyan would keratin make my hair straight permanently? - I don't want that, I like to have it curly sometimes, and straighten it sometimes. I don't know much about the treatments - what do they do?

Rainy someone above said they have fine curly hair and it works, but like you I am wondering! - as steam + curly hair usually leads to more curls not less!

It last about 3 months if you look after it and gradually go back to it's original state by the end of that time. It is like Japanese bonding but not as harsh.

My hair is wavy and thick. It takes me ages to comb through it every day. When I do a keratin treatment it is soft and tangle free and straighter. It feels like satin. Basically you are putting a protein conditioning treatment on your hair that lasts about 3 months.

WeeM · 21/09/2017 15:49

I'm talking rubbish it's not remingtons I have its babyliss! I have the pro 235 elegance ones although there's probably a newer version now.
