Help I have an interview on wed and nothing to wear!

Spent all afternoon in local town and found nothing that fit/like/suitable - please inspire me!

Am kinda pear shape - I have no boobs and a big bum/hips. But I have wider shoulders than average pear and also my upper arms aren't in proportion so Find lots of tops/jackets too tight on top of the arms if they fit elsewhere.

Need smart office attire - budget £150 max (shoes will be on top of needed).

Am starting from scratch again with Office attire. I have no idea what to wear to be honest! It's 6 years since I last worked in an office!

Size 10/12/14 depending on store and which part of my body you are trying to fit!!! Oh and I'm 5ft7.

Have 3 hours tomorrow morning to go looking and find something - can anyone help?

Wrap dress?

This board has a great hit rate with interview outfits. I asked for advice and got the job, and a fair few others have too!

Maudlinmaud · 18/09/2017 19:24

Where you in h&m? I saw some gorgeous wrap dresses in store on friday, they where very long on me but I'm 6 inches shorter than you. They also had some nice v neck and crepe dresses which would be suitable for work with black tights & pumps or boots.

Ah thank you guys for replying - am getting so stressed as I have nothing to wear - literally nothing as I don't fit in to any of my old work wear that I kept. I don't really go clothes shopping as it is (due to lack of funds) and am living in whatever has survived being washed 1000 times and still fits me post baby 3 years ago!

Am not exaggerating - I've brought 2 pairs of jeans this year, a swimming costume and a top. That's it!

To make things worse we don't have H&M/primark etc. I should have said that earlier. These are the shops I can go to:
Dorothy Perkins
Next
M&S
New look
Monsoon
Jack wills
And the department stores have concessions (that I can remember) of:
Coast
Wallis
Oasis
Phase Eight
Miss selfridge
Warehouse
Hobbs
River island

I tried this dress on (with matching suit jacket) from oasis today. They are keeping them til tomorrow for me. It fits and would be ok for interview, but the jacket I could really do with a size 12 and they only had a 10 and I can't really see me wearing it any other time than for interviews as the skirt part is pretty tight, I'd struggle to do the school run in it never mind the rush to work once I've found a parking space!

I'll buy it if I can't find anything but would prefer not to as I don't feel "right" in it - and I would be wasting £120 which I can't afford

Of those I'd say Dorothy Perkins, Next or Hobbs may be your best bet, but others may be ok too.
I like this look for an interview - would something along these lines work for the job in question?

That's nice but if you don't feel right, keep looking. Ideally you'll feel super confident in your outfit so it comes across in your interview!

Ragwort · 18/09/2017 20:46

Can you trawl round the charity shops? I wouldn't dream of spending £150 on an 'interview outfit' - could you borrow something? Most interviewers really aren't going to check your outfit, so long as you are neat and clean it really doesn't matter.

My last outfit for a management job was a 15 year old skirt, T shirt, neat cardigan and 20 year old boots (all from charity shops) - I got the job Grin. I wore the same skirt for my previous appointment so there must be something lucky about it ! I am a size 18 as well !

Thingywhatsit · 18/09/2017 21:17

Nc4 - yes I like that dress 😄 Any ideas where it is from?

Ragwort I would spend £150 max but would prefer less. And I would only spend that much if it was gonna be an investment piece in my new work wardrobe if you know what I mean. Have enlarged the budget so that I might find something - time is running out!

I don't know about that one, but google has thrown up this this and this if any good?

Katescurios · 18/09/2017 22:18

Dorothy Perkins have a nice black wrap dress in at the minute m.dorothyperkins.com/en/dpuk/product/black-fit-and-flare-wrap-dress-6975423?currentPage=2

Judydreamsofhorses · 18/09/2017 22:29

What sort of job is it? I think a smart dress with a long-enough-to-cover-it outdoor coat is fine at this time of year, provided the coat is also reasonably smart, like a wool coat or trench, not an outdoorsy parka or similar.

For my last interview I wore a knee length black dress with black boots (and opaque tights) with teal wool coat, and just carried the coat over my arm once I was signed in. That was in October. Dress was Next, and has never been worn since - if the interview wasn't so close I would send it to you!

Would a pencil skirt/nice blouse be easier to manage?

I think a dress is a good bet - looks uptogether! This sort of thing? uk.monsoon.co.uk/view/product/uk_catalog/mon_1,mon_1.2/3413080808

Blogwoman · 18/09/2017 22:40

This is smart too uk.monsoon.co.uk/view/product/uk_catalog/mon_1,mon_1.2/3416190152

imjessie · 18/09/2017 22:52

What sort of job interview is it ? Unless you are going for a city job all this is unnecessary . Just get some smart black trousers and a blouse .

imjessie · 18/09/2017 22:53

You would probably find that in marks for £50 max !

Ragwort · 21/09/2017 10:29

How did the interview go?

Hoppinggreen · 21/09/2017 10:34

If I'm not too late do you have a large Sainsbury's near you?
Some of their stuff is nice and they group it together well so you can easily build an outfit. Cheap too

Thingywhatsit · 22/09/2017 21:19

I'm back - sorry to have gone awol on you!!!

I finally found a suit in next that fitted well enough and matched some shoes I already had (couldn't face shoe shopping as well!) the panic was well and truly setting in that I wouldn't find something I liked and suited that they had the right size in! So I was done by tues lunchtime and in time for nursery pick up!

Interview on Wednesday I thought didn't go too well - lots of curveball questions and questions I hadn't prepared for. Was very nervous- had hardly slept (literally 3 hours) and was nearly sick once I had parked the car and waiting to go in the building!

Phone call today at 4.45pm offering me the job!!!!!

Couldn't believe it - its for more hours than I really wanted so going to have to try negotiate that. Will also need to sort out childcare now!

so you guys gave me the luck - thank you all!

I now have to expand my non existent work wardrobe! Well I have to make one 😄😄😄😄 will start doing some leisurely shopping next week - I won't be so stressed for that though. Can't wait to buy some nice clothes and not feel guilty about spending money on me! I need the clothes now - I didn't before as had stuff that would do whilst being at home.

Over 6 years since I worked in the office, and 2 years since I've worked. gonna be a shock to the system!!!!!
