Teen Christmas Make-up Gift

I am looking to buy my 16 year old daughter some make-up she wouldn't buy herself for Christmas. I am completely confused about which brand would be best or the trendiest or the most sought after. At the moment she buys herself Collection and Natural Collection products from Boots. I am not convinced that I need to go as high end as something like Mac but I am looking for the basics, tinted moisturiser /foundation, concealer, powder etc. and am happy to buy individual items rather than a set.
I was considering Maybelline as a mid range option or one of the bareMinerals starter sets. I would be really grateful for any suggestions or recommendations as I have no idea where to start. Many thanks.

Bumping for the advice.

Why not make a day of it aswell? Some Boots stores have beauty advisors who can give advice on the brands like maybelline, L'Oréal etc. In that price range - Bourjois is a good, affordable range and make lovely bases, blusher eyeshadow. You could always get her a few mid-priced basics and then splash out on a lipgloss or mascara from a more premium brand that she likes?

Alternatively you could book her in for a lesson with one of the more premium brands and then buy one of the products they use?

Last suggestion is that a lot of beauty brands do Christmas makeup palettes which have gorgeous packaging and can be quite reasonable . Bobbi Brown usually do some mini palettes of eyeshadow and lipgloss that I imagine a 16year old would love to show off to friends.

I had forgotten about Bourjois, definitely worth a trip to Boots. Thanks Bakewelltarte.

Check if your DD is only prepared to wear cruelty-free.
There's lots of info online , best thing is to search on the product brand name them into the FAQ.

For my DD - Urban Decay, KatVonD or TooFaced (all from large Debenhams)
Tarte (QVC)
BarryM

My DD and I went into Urban Decay (to buy a foundation) a while back they did a mini make up for her as it was quiet .
I would definately book a full makeover for her there if she wanted one (don't know how much they charge but I'd imagine there are busier times. They might do the make-over free if you're buying product?

Have a look on Beauty Bay. Find a brand you've never heard of and buy it. Done! 😁

More seriously, try some more unusual brands for presents. Anything you can buy in Superdrug isn't massively exciting. Makeup Geek singles in a Z palette, BH Cosmetics, anything from ABH or Fenty Beauty are all big at the moment.

My DD who is 17 and massively into makeup got www.beautybay.com/cosmetics/bhcosmetics/nuderosenightfallpalette/ and www.beautybay.com/cosmetics/bhcosmetics/wildalluringbakedeyeshadowhighlighterpalette/ last week and she says they are fantastic, so it doesn't have to be massively expensive.

Another alternative would be a good set of brushes. DD has the Lamora ones from Amazon, which are apparently very good Sigma dupes.

Ooh, I used to really covet Bourjois, as a teen. Myriads of sparkley eyeshadows in those little pots. All I usually had was Constance Carole or Rimmel, if I was flush. One of my Aunties used to put an Avon lipstick in my Christmas present occasionally and I used to get excited about that.

WomblingThree · 18/09/2017 17:01

Really? That's gross. I've never heard of them till DD mentioned it.

Am getting my DD 16 the Benefit Advent calendar-she loves it.

A christmas present idea might be to book her a make up session in one of the shops (my dd did benefit for prom) and she loved it-the girl was great explaining stuff and then you buy a certain amount of make up to pay as session is free.

The Real Technique brush sets are very good - last year they were much cheaper on Amazon than Boots.
Could you maybe get her a couple of bits of make-up and put in a gift card as well so she can choose some other bits herself - that's the fun bit.
If you just want one wow item, most the teens I know really like the Urban Decay Naked eyeshadow sets (I think they are about £39!). If you want cheap you can get similar from Revolution (online or in superdrug).

gingertigercat · 18/09/2017 19:13

Kylie Jenner lip kit is very popular (even though I dislike her) NYX normally do lovely Christmas advent calendars and the. Naked eye palettes are a good classic.

BeaLola · 19/09/2017 00:03

I am not 17 sadly ! But am thinking Urban Decay, Mac, Bobbi Brown, Bourjois, benefit

Could you book her in for a complimentary make over with one or two f the brands and a voucher to fund what she chooses

Morphe brushes, huda beauty, becca highlighters, there are loads. Just don't let her get carried away and go all 'stripey' with contouring! Have a look on lookfantastic / feel unique. I also would definitely NOT buy from beauty bay - order disaster the 2 times I tried. Never again. Ever.
