If you wear a jacket for work

If you wear a jacket for work, do you keep it on inside, or take it off 'so you feel the benefit'?

And what do you do about a coat?

It's a conundrum that gets me every winter. Usually I get round it by wearing a cardi, but I'm switching to a smarter job this autumn and need to figure this out!

I drive to work so often wear a jacket with no coat as I'm not outside much. DH uses public transport and tends to travel in a coat/rain jacket but he keeps a couple of blazers and a suit at work for when he needs to smarten up. Wearing a coat over a jacket is tricky to do.

I wear a jacket. Usually over a dress. I take it off at work but put it on again for meetings (generally) or if I'm cold.

I agree that the jacket/coat thing is a conundrum. Last week I wore a trench coat over my jacket but it wasn't comfortable. I've been wondering if I can carry my jacket in my bag. But actually I'll probably end up wearing a cardi and looking forward to summer.

I have coats large enough to fit a jacket under it - except 1 particular Zara jacket that has very large sleeve ends.

My winter coat is an Ilse Jacobsen, as I use public transport and it's generally wet and cool in Ireland.

My jacket may come off or stay on, depending on the office temperature indoors. I sometimes will swop it for a cardigan - I have bulky warmer ones for cold days when I am working on something myself, and thinner smarter ones (some Landsend boleros, or the cardigan that you might wear as a twinset like Landsend or M&S sell) when I may have to meet others. In some instances, those thin cardigans are thin enough to wear under the jacket if I need an extra layer.

The other thing to think about is thermal layers. Warm vests can be surprisingly neat and invisible for wearing under smart dresses and blouses nowadays, but can do a great job for something so thin of keeping you warm. M&S have a few different types, and work fine, I think Damart is still going on the continent, that sort of place.
