It's a 14-16. Gorgeous. Practically new. I'm an 18 and it's unlikely to ever fit. What do I do with it?

Ooh, post pics! I love vintage furs, and it's my size!

The fur industry takes cruelty to a whole new level....it's a cop out to argue that we mostly all eat meat and use leather products etc.

Until you have watched videos of animals being skinned alive and having their fur ripped off them whilst screaming in pain you don't really have any understanding of what wearing fur supports.

The fur coats you wear, whether new vintage support that industry. Shame on you.

Squashit · 19/09/2017 14:56

You would do well to look into the leather slaughtering industry in certain countries school because there is no difference in the practices you describe re fur industry. Also see wool and angora production.

Then take a little time to see what is involved in the dairy industry.

All of it is cruel- fur is not more so.

schoolgaterebel · 19/09/2017 15:24

@Squashit I couldn't agree more.

The act of barbarically killing and harming animals for beauty / vanity seems more pointless than for food, but the meat / poultry / dairy industry is just as cruel.

That always confuses me @StarHeartDiamond, on the "OMG I've got to feed lunch to one vegetarian" threads when people say "no way I'm eating a meal without meat". Do they never eat cheese sandwiches or macaroni cheese or scrambled egg/beans on toast?

TitaniasCloset · 20/09/2017 01:30

Yeah I'm still wanting the coat. Probably won't fit me though.

I have inherited one as well from my MIL which she bought in the 80s and only wore once. I think it cost quite a bit as well. No idea what to do with it Hmm. I think it’s Mink.

Many years ago (about 30 I think) my lovely mum inherited a full length sable coat from my great grandma. It was beautiful to look at but she hated what it represented and refused to have it in the house, (it had been in cold storage for years). She sold it for £18k to a collector and donated the money to the WWF. My mum was amazing.

ZaraW · 21/10/2017 17:13

WhataHex that was a really lovely thing for your mum to do. Now that Gucci no longer use fur hopefully the other major designers will take note and the fur trade goes further into decline.

WhataHexIgotinto · 21/10/2017 17:34

It was Zara. My dad was horrified. Grin

There is way more fur about than ever! Russians buy it and sell it so it's not going to disappear!

Fur coats can be sold to specialist second-hand fur retailers. The Harrods coat is possibly mink. Mink is usually quite dark brown and fairly slim pelts. If Harrods sold it from their fur room (long gone) its probably decent quality but as the market is now limited due to anti fur pressure, it's not worth much. It's not Gucci or Dior. It could be worth circa £500.

A diamond ring would have increased in value so much more! Hope your Grandma had good jewellery too!
