Court suits?? Not next

Next have nothing much this season. I want a skirt suit or a dress and jacket - I'm an 8. Anywhere similar prices or less than next? Anything any good?

Depends on your size. I'm chunky so I stick to next, but my boss is slim and she looks smart even in a Primark suit.

Queenofthedrivensnow · 17/09/2017 18:55

Was hoping for online....looked at boohoo but too sexy!

Marks?

eurochick · 17/09/2017 19:51

As a lawyer?

What's your budget?

My current suits are from banana republic and jigsaw but not this season. Reiss have lovely sharp suits but they are expensive. A lot of lawyers wear a dress and jacket. Ted baker is good for this but also spenny.

eurochick · 17/09/2017 19:52

Sorry. I'm on the app so can't see the thread when I post. Just seen you want something in the next price range or cheaper. Oasis?

Hobbs

Queenofthedrivensnow · 17/09/2017 20:06

Cheaper than next would be better. I wanted a dress and jacket and was recommended new look by a conveyancer friend but can't find anything!

Oasis have amazing dresses but no directed matching jackets. I want to buy the set!

Oh wow thanks for the marks link they are really reasonable!!

I would reccomend buying a proper suit second hand on eBay. A lot of the reisse/Hobbs type stuff doesn't really age much and a lot of women keep them in nearly mint condition for a number of years before giving up on loosing weight and selling them. The whole point of a suit is that it looks fitted as of it was taitlor made, the cheaper ones usually just look frumpy.

This is what I'm desperate for!

eBay like this? Is it a gamble?

anything at Austin Reed in their sale?

Pinkvici22 · 17/09/2017 21:48

Love the dress you've linked to OP...I really struggle with the M&S website. How do you find which jacket matches?!

Queenofthedrivensnow · 17/09/2017 21:51

Pink - I don't know this is what's really annoying me about all the sites - I just want the ones that match!! There's a flagship marks here so will brave it and see if I can find the dress.

Ebay is fab for suits - I buy Jigsaw, Reiss and Hobbs ones from there and rarely pay more than £20. (Also a lawyer, though thankfully not in court much these days.) People buy suits for interviews and then Ebay them.

ASqueakingInTheShrubbery · 17/09/2017 22:11

I'm between sizes so needed something that would do at a reasonable price. After scouring the whole of our nearest shopping centre, I ended up with a Marks one for £60.

I'd get a really good brand, classic cut/colour suit from eBay in a size that's a little bigger than you need. Then get it tailored/tweaked to your shape at the dressmakers. You'll look a million dollars, but without spending it. Obviously there is dry cleaning costs to factor in, but hanging it properly and sponging it lightly (or giving it a light steam) will keep costs down.

Queenofthedrivensnow · 18/09/2017 08:57

Skittles I love this idea how much roughly for tailoring?

OP posts:
LoveVelo · 18/09/2017 12:29

Agree with Skittles, tailoring can get pricey though!
I've had some great stuff from ebay (suits) and recommend Paul Smith for beautifully tailored items, in fact, there is a Buy it Now dress suit up for £50 now in an 8...

Queenofthedrivensnow · 18/09/2017 12:37

Lovevelo I've linked to that one too. I'm not familiar with paul smith sizing though is it bigger smaller? I'm a 6-8 in next but I don't want it skin tight!

OP posts:
LoveVelo · 18/09/2017 16:08

Sorry, yes, see its been linked earlier!
I'd say comes up a bit smaller, for me, when I was a Next size 6, I was 38 or 40 in Paul Smith. Basically Italian sizing so 40 equates to an 8.
