Help with styling dress for a wedding

I'm going to a smart wedding next weekend. Bride is my cousin. I've bought this dress but don't know what to wear with it. If it's chilly during the day I will need something. I have a navy shawl that will do but not sure if that's a thing any more. I'm 42, size 14 and don't look great in cropped cardis. Also not sure about shoes & other accessories. I have navy & silver shoes (as well as black but not nude) Do people still wear fascinators? Haven't been to a smart wedding for ages. Cousin is 10 years younger than me though so the wedding will be full of bright young things who do exciting sounding jobs in London.

Thank you!

Hmmm, a very pretty dress but not with silver or navy shoes I think. It's difficult to work out what that darkest colour is, is it a dark brown, reddish brown - maybe oxblood? How about these (or similar) from LK Bennett? Difficult one to get right, I think you'd have to take your dress along to check, or order a few pairs to see what works.

I loathe cropped cardis, and would avoid them like the plague - very ageing I think. If the budget stretched to it, I would wear a short coat, maybe like this from Hobbs. Or this Bordeaux suede jacket from Gerry Weber.

What do you think?

Lovely dress. I think you should try and echo the ombre effect and match your shoes to the darkest colour at the bottom of the dress. The coats Chinup linked to are lovely but if they're too expensive I think a shawl that picked up one of the colours in the dress would be fine. Definitely, definitely no fascinator!

I'm going to book the trend and say I think the outfit would look more balanced if it didn't continue the ombré effect. I'd pick out the blue in the dress for shoes I think, or a lighter shared from the ombré rather than the darkest. It's a nice dress, but will be hard to choose shoes for. I definitely agree you need to try both at once, and it feels like there wouldn't be much margin of error for the colour.

Thank! The darker colour is a sort of purple-ish burgundy colour - tricky but managed to match nail varnish to it. There is more navy in it than that picture suggests but I think I'll take it shopping with me to look for shoes.
