Dress for dancing

Can anyone suggest a good place to buy a below the knee dress or skirt that would allow movement for dancing but still look elegant?

I'm tall, size 10 and in my mid 50s. My preferred style has always been quite tailored, fitted clothes in block colours or subtle patterns (clothes comfort zone Hobbs, LK Bennett and similar). However these don't work at all for the form of dance I enjoy. I need freedom of movement and, whilst I would love a skirt that swirled with the movement of dance, I'm really not comfortable with stiff fabric or 'sticky out' styles. I need something that drapes.

The dresses and skirts I have found so far are all a bit too short and so miss the elegant look I'm aiming for. Would look great if I was in my 20s or 30s but not quite right for my current age and persona.

I'm also not comfortable with strappy dresses, I don't mind sleeveless but prefer tops of shoulders to be covered.

I'd be really grateful for any ideas about where to look.

I have a navy version of this It swirls out as you dance but is not indecent. Comfy and long enough as well. red version

This is a bit pricey, but is this the look you're going for LK Bennett Babette? (apologies if it doesn't come through correctly, I'm accessing the John Lewis site from overseas).

Or this from Coast?

Mint Velvet?

There's quite a few on the John Lewis website. If you're tall and size 10, you have so much choice - don't let being in your mid-50s slow you down. If you think you've got stuck in a 'safe' style rut, book in with a personal shopper at John Lewis and see what they bring you. And keep dancing!!

The dresses on these websites might be along the right lines?

Thank you all. Those dresses are beautiful.

The ones Chin-up has shown are exactly the look I'm going for, particularly the LK Bennett one although the price is definitely scary.

The others, suggested by Slug and Poppins are on the short side although otherwise lovely. I wear above the knee for everyday stuff but want a bit longer for dancing. I see a few older women with short skirts in this type of dance and it's not a good look. I know I have the figure to wear short but it doesn't go with my face and persona.

I don't feel I'm in a rut exactly, I have a style I feel comfortable with and can't relax if wearing stuff with lots of excess pattern, frills, flowers etc.

I'm a bit wary about the John Lewis personal shopping. Tried it once and was given stuff from the petite range to try on. I pointed out that I'm 5'10" and they just said 'but it's a long dress so will be 3/4 length on you'. They then sold me dress from a range I hadn't previously heard of (just wanted to get out by the stage). On googling I discovered it specialised in large sizes for mother of the bride type events. Returned it and bought a beautiful Ted Baker dress elsewhere.

I'm off to have a further look through the John Lewis website. Thank you all again. Really appreciate your help.
