IPL hair removal - advice needed

Rufus27 · 16/09/2017 20:26

Have had enough of waxing my facial hair and decided to invest in an IPL hair removal system. I know a lot of people rate the Philips Lumea, but when I went to search for one, I realised there are lots of different models - and I really couldn't tell the difference (apart from the price).
Is there a specific model you would recommend? Any to avoid? Are the cheaper ones as good? (Tesco has one on offer for £150 whereas some models are over £450). Is there any particular model which is better for lip/chin hair?

TIA.

They have a set number of flashes. The bulb part in not replaceable, so more flashes = more expensive usually.
Mine has the seperate heads for face and bikini line.

Thanks - had no idea about the flashes, so really appreciate the advice.

Get one that has a cord, not a rechargeable battery. If you don't recharge them every 6 months or so the battery will completely die and cannot be replaced. Plus a corded version means that you don't have to worry about it running out of charge halfway through the job!

Personally I never use any of the attachments so I would say get the most basic model. You don't need the attachments for facial hair and it just takes longer with them than without them as all they do is make the zap area smaller or weaker.

The most basic Lumea model is small, has a smaller zap area and takes a bit longer to power up between zaps. The next model up from that is almost identical to the most expensive, so that is the one I would go for.

I have this - smoothskin gold and it's been brilliant.

I've used it maybe 10/12 times on my arm pits and have no hair there any more. I also zap my chin and top lip whenever I remember, and no longer have to worry about those sprouting chin hairs!

I'd definitely recommend it. I think it was cheaper than £220 when I got it so shop around, but it's still less than the Lumea and does a great job.

Following as I've asked for one Christmas

This is the one I am considering. I presume (at this price) it's very basic, but it looks like it could do the job?

It will do the job, but it has a v small window, so will be slow. This one will be a better, but is £50 more.

Rufus27 · 17/09/2017 20:56

Haffiana Thanks for the link. £50 extra would still be in budget.
