So I am getting more and more into make up than I ever did before, I'm in mid 30's
A few questions that have come up,
What is the difference between bb cream, cc cream and foundations?
What do you use on top of bb/cc cream or foundation? I used to use just a bronzer as I'm quite pale and suit a bit of colour of my face but should it be powder? What type does what?
What's best primer or setting spray?
Pls feel free to ask any questions you may have also in hope that s&b can help
Thanks as always

I don't understand this part of your question
Pls feel free to ask any questions you may have also in hope that s&b can help

It sounds as if you are researching for a feature Hmm

bb = beauty balm - it's moisturiser and a light tint all in one, sometimes with spf.

cc= colour corrector- so it's a moisturiser (ish) with a bit of colour to make your skin less pink, more pink, less dull- whatever you need.

foundation- you use a moisturiser under it and it has more coverage than bb and cc cream. So will cover spots, freckles, thread veins etc.

cc can go under foundation but some types are fine on their own.

You can use a light powder- loose powder or compact on top of foundation if you w ant to.

Sorry just meant it as anyone feel free to derail and ask away if anything there not sure of. Definitely not writing a feature, don't know enough of anything to do that Grin
Thank you for your reply though

BB creams tend to be light coverage + moisturiser + SPF. CC creams tend to do that with colour correction on top.

It may be better to set with a translucent powder, then use your bronzer on top. The powder underneath will help stop bronzer going patchy or settling into pores since the base underneath won't be sticky anymore.

BigBlockofCheese · 15/09/2017 22:02

Ooh I'm put off using foundation unless I'm going out out but I'm losing my youthful glow and need something day to day....perhaps bb is what I'm missing. Does it feel invisible like moisturiser or can you tell you're wearing it? Any recommendations for brand? I normally use bobbi Brown foundation

SunFinished · 15/09/2017 22:15

That's a good tip GetOut I have been having some patchy bronzer days and I end of dabbing it off with tissue until it looks even, what sort of shade powder should I get? Same as skin tone or darker?

I've found BB cream to be really heavy and mask like. You'd be better getting a 'sheer tint' type product for light coverage. Even so called 'tinted moisturiser' looks too much on me.

Misericord · 15/09/2017 22:21

What is s&b?

kingfishergreen · 15/09/2017 22:29

What is s&b? I presume Style and Beauty. I believe OP was encouraging other people to ask their own questions.

OP: I use (in order of application)

  1. BB cream
  2. Dusting of translucent powder (I'm shiny without)
  3. Blusher or bronzer - depending on weather
  4. Light grey eye shadow (makes my eyes look browner)
  5. Black mascara
  6. Tinted lip gloss

If I'm going out-out, I add:

Highlighter on my cheekbones and under my eyebrows, eyebrow powder to fill in any little gaps from over-zealous plucking in the 90's, proper lipstick.

kingfishergreen · 15/09/2017 22:30

Oh I meant to say: I've used primers and setting sprays at various points, but never liked one enough to keep-up wth it.

GetOutOfMYGarden · 15/09/2017 22:31

I usually just use a translucent one OP. No colour to it whatsoever.

flippinada · 15/09/2017 22:35
  1. BB and CC creams in coverage terms (broadly speaking) offer more coverage than a tinted moisturiser and less than a foundation. Of course this varies from brand to brand, just to be helpful.
  1. Use whatever you like! Base product only without any other make up tends to make you look odd though. As a general rule, bronzer and/or blush to add colour whatever eye make up/lip make up you fancy. There are different kinds of powders - setting (for, well, setting your make up) and finishing (ties it all together). Both optional.
  1. Depends on your skin type and what base product you're wearing - there are loads of primers. The L'Oréal setting spray is cheap as chips and dead good (imo)

Hope that helps to be getting on with!

Etymology23 · 15/09/2017 22:39

I too am a bit of a beauty novice - I did have a phase of wearing make up but no more.

kingfisher you said you use grey to make your eyes browner, does it just highlight any colour, or only brown? I have slightly odd eyes, blue and yellow, but some people say grey and some green and they change colour depending how ill I am - I'd love to be able to bring out the colour in them!

PollyPerky · 15/09/2017 22:39

One more point- most BBs are not available in a huge range of shades. I use on by Bobbi Brown sometimes but only because it has spf 35. The shade is not quite right for me (best they did) whereas in foundation you can get up to 24 shades, so a closer match. Might not be an issue for you but my skin is very very fair and I have a problem getting a foundation that is pale enough never mind a BB cream.

PollyPerky · 15/09/2017 22:43

I think you need to experiment with eye shadow colour.
I use mid-grey / beige brown (Bobbi Brown Cement and Grey) but you need to think about how much lid you have, if your eyes are deep set or prominent, your overall skin tone, as well as your eye colour.
eg pink or nude shades make me look ill, paler shades make my upper lid too prominent, yellow-beige makes me look unwell. My eyes are green-grey and my skin is pale cool toned.

SilverAndCold · 16/09/2017 06:46

etymology I have green grey with yellow round the pupil and find that lilac greys make them stand out more. Vivid green toned turquoise does as well (I do this as a liquid liner cats eye as full on turquoise eyeshadow is a bit bright for my general style).

BasementPeople · 16/09/2017 06:56

Oh silverandcold - can I ask what lilac grey you use? I am looking for a replacement after my favourite was discontinued.

And talking of discontinued...Boots has stopped selling seventeen miracle matt powder. What the flip can I use instead for my oil slick of a face?

Etymology23 · 16/09/2017 07:20

Thank you! I shall look those out! Sounds v like my eyes, and I have very strong glasses so they sometimes vanish a bit, as they're shrunk to 2/3 actual size.

SilverAndCold · 16/09/2017 07:26

basement I'm currently using this palette:
www.superdrug.com/Make-Up/Eye-Makeup/Eye-Shadow/Eye-Shadow-Palettes/Makeup-Revolution-New-trals-vs-Neutrals/p/567512

I'm not hugely brand loyal with eye shadows though- just from browsing this one looks like it could have good lilac grey shades too:
www.superdrug.com/Make-Up/Eye-Makeup/Eye-Shadow/Eye-Shadow-Palettes/Mua-Pro-Eyeshadow-Palette-Heavenly-Neutral/p/736864

SilverAndCold · 16/09/2017 07:33

This is the turquoise green liquid liner I use on top lids in a cats eye:
stila.co.uk/products/stay-all-day-waterproof-liquid-eye-liner-turquoise?utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=googlepla&variant=12097840967&gclid=CjwKCAjw9O3NBRB3EiwAK6wPTx3qmy_DeDtfA4n9hOgL_sLqtC9JT6ZDAvcQJLQfobodMz6yoLjsbBoCZicQAvD_BwE

Sleek used to do a brilliant one in a similar shade but I haven't been able to find it for a long time, think is probably discontinued.

A less turquoise and more green liner that also works with my eye colour is this one:
