OK - this might sound like a really weird question.....

But - here goes. So - not all clothing needs washing or dry cleaning after every wear, right? Dresses, trousers, some nice tops etc. But they do need washing after a few wears. If everything gets put back in the wardrobe after being worn how do you know how many wears it's had and when it's due for a wash? The anal side of me almost envisages some weird system of putting stickers on things with the number of wears, but realise that is madness. So what do other people do??

If it's something like a t shirt that I'm going to wear again reasonably soon (next couple of days), it doesn't go back in the drawer.

If it's something that I'm not going to wear for a while, it gets hung up to air overnight then back in the wardrobe the next day

I am completely guided by visual and olfactory checks. If it looks fine, no stains etc, and it doesn't smell (good sniff of all the obvious areas before it goes back in the wardrobe), then I don't worry about how often specifically it's be worn. I do try to put everything on the line for a couple of hours before it goes away, or at the worst, hang on the shower rail for a day, and nothing goes back in the wardrobe unless I'd be happy to wear it again - so it's sponged, brushed, aired, etc before it's put away.

Like OlennasWimple, I tend to try to avoid putting things back in my wardrobe thinking I'll wear them again soon. This results in mountains of clothes on sofa in bedroom and a very irate OCD husband. Keep thinking there must be a better method.

I never wear a top more than once without being washed (unless I only had it on for couple hours or less) but bottoms I'll wear more than once if not dirty but I never put them back in the wardrobe I just fold them and lay them on my wicker basket in my bedroom.

I don't put clothes worn next to the skin back in the wardrobe. Trousers hang from the end of my book case, tops and exercise kit on a hook behind the door, on hangers.

my mum gets card luggage tags and writes on the date she wore it and where, ties it to the hanger. She puts a description of the item at the top. This is only for 'occasion' type stuff, works for her.

Washables go in the wash after every wear. Sometimes I might wear a pair of trousers twice.

Best dresses, wool, and delicates get hand washed each wear. Dry cleaning.....rare occurrence, most things hand wash well. Coats go to dry cleaners once a year.

I've never hung worn clothes back in the wardrobe.

I can barely squeeze in the clean clothes.....must stop shopping. If the wash bin wasn't full I'd have to buy a new wardrobe.
