The dreaded tights season has started

Have just started wearing tights to work and the M&S Autograph Ladder resistant have already laddered after one wear. I'm willing to pay a bit more for better quality but where? Any recommendations very welcome.

MrsHippo thank you - I think you have confirmed my initial thoughts.

Opaques 99% of the time. And nude tights for those work meetings where I have to be polished - too cold in the north for no tights at all.

expatmigrant · 15/09/2017 17:57

I'm wearing tights already because I work in the city and it just doesn't look very professional going barelegged once the colder seasons come in. Opaques are a def nono for me for work.
Thank you for all the helpful replies though Flowers

Shamelessly high jacking this thread Blush but for those who prefer stockings, what type do you chose?

I wear a traditional suspender belt with my retro/vintage style dresses but I'm interested in how you wear them everyday?

KadabrasSpoon · 15/09/2017 20:46

I'm very loyal to uniqlo. Have some pairs that have lasted years without laddering.

OneOfTheGrundys · 15/09/2017 21:25

I'm a fan of the posh end tesco ones.

ILoveDolly · 15/09/2017 22:49

Next had lots of coloured opaque tights. I just looked out my thick tights for winter and discovered I definitely have too many

McSleepy · 16/09/2017 06:30

I have been buying mine from John Lewis recently. They still have a tights sale on in my local store.

AppleBosom · 16/09/2017 06:31

but your initial thoughts were that 10d black is for the young or trendy paradoxical?
opaque is worn by younger women. nude is usually for older women.

Bolshybookworm · 16/09/2017 06:47

The best 10-15 denier tights I bought last year were from Boots, of all places. Think they were the ladder resist ones, about £4 per pair. Lasted a few wears.

Most of the time though, I just buy the cheap, matte supermarket ones and treat them as single wear Blush

OliviaStabler · 16/09/2017 06:49

@Merryhobnobs

John Lewis's tights are quite long in the leg. Might be worth a try.

Kate010377 · 16/09/2017 07:44

I find that 10 denier nude tights ladder easily so usually opt for 15 denier if I have to wear nude tights for work. Just curious as to why opaque tights are a big no-no?

WhiskeySourpuss · 16/09/2017 15:22

Crazyunicornlady I wear hold ups but with a traditional suspender belt as I like the added protection that they won't fall down. I wear a variety of pencil skirts for work so tend to go with nude stockings.

ShaniceWearsMostlyGlitter · 16/09/2017 15:29

Anyone short and curvy here? I find no matter where I buy my tights and how well they fit initially, they ALWAYS end up wrinkled around the ankle like Nora Batty. I'm under 5 ft 3 so I'm guessing it's the legs are always too long i.e. My legs are too short! Anyone found the solution?

musicmum75 · 16/09/2017 18:31

I'm 4'10" and buy my tights from M&S or Uniqlo. Their lengths are fine on me. No wrinkling.

Chestervase1 · 16/09/2017 18:36

I went into Next and M&S this afternoon but could not bring myself to buy any tights. I don't feel like we have had summer at all! I like Dim tights that you can buy in hypermarkets in France. I also like Dim underwear. Long ago converted to French pharmacies.

LonelyGir1 · 16/09/2017 21:53

Another vote for Primark.

The opaque ones even have a label so you know which way round to wear them!

Cakemadeoffruit · 16/09/2017 22:00

I love Wilkinsons own brand, in the nude. I'm 5'4 size 18/20 and the tall and curvy ones fit lovely.

hosiery4men · 25/09/2017 15:38

With tights you get what you pay for. Go for quality brands such as Falke and Wolford and the experience is so much better. The sizing is great with these two brands as well so great for larger and taller people, and also men.

Heist are brilliant also - expensive but they live up to the hype.
