30-something fashion instamums?

upsidedown2017 · 12/09/2017 16:27

Who can I follow that fits this bill?

Desperately need some 'real life' fashion inspiration to help put together some casual outfits for when I'm out and about with the kids. Have totally lost my mojo and have no idea what I'm doing anymore! Confidence is at rock bottom :(

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Following with interest as I'm always keen to find new inspiration!

I guess it depends what your style is? At the moment I like Emma Hill as her taste is similar to mine. She's not a mum but I think lots of the things she wears are suitable if you're into a simple but smarter look. Lots of jeans with tshirts, trainers, blazers and simple jewellery. She also seems to post high street stuff - she was apologising the other day for showing a £70 Zara blazer as she considered it expensive.

I quite like Chloe Loves to Shop. Mum of 3 but taste is much more expensive -e.g. £300 trainers!!! She's also super petite so many of the things she posts I would never get away with.

Dress like a mum is mentioned a lot in here but I find her taste a bit wacky for my liking although I love how her personality comes across.

Maybe you'll find some inspiration from one of them?

elQuintoConyo · 12/09/2017 18:38

Jeans, tshirts, blazers, trainers, simple jewellery. And you need to follow an instagrammer for this?

Go round some shops, buy what tickles your fancy, wear it. Try not to be a clone.

Ta-da!

titsandgiggles · 12/09/2017 18:46

Oooooooh another instamum thread! Grin (joke)

I love teeclutter. She's bloody beautiful and her style is bang on. So achievable but really strong looks.

Stylemesunday and style_mum are also good IMO.

titsandgiggles · 12/09/2017 18:47

Don't be a cunt, elquinto.

MsUnderstanding · 12/09/2017 18:53

Instamums don't do real life. I thought that was made clear in the other thread.

Beadieeye · 12/09/2017 18:59

I follow all the French ones. More stylish and less 'try hard'

PopGoesTheWeaz · 12/09/2017 19:07

titsandgiggles nailed it

JessiCake · 12/09/2017 19:23

Not sure if she's an Instagram-mer (?) but a post on here led me to discover Esther Walker's blog, onthespike.

I luffs her now (though am having to work very VERY hard indeed to luff her quite as much after she posted a pic of her parka with a fur-trimmed hood... Angry )

She is late 30s with two kids and her blog posts seem to be all about a cool, stylish, chic capsule wardrobe. I've bought a few new things on the advice of her posts on there and I have to say I do feel as if I've got a lot of my mojo back (I'm 40 and felt in dire need of re-invention as my DD starts school)

Maybe try her? Her budgets are sensible - a lot of H&M and uniqlo - and her style is lovely imo. (she's married to Giles Coren which may or may not put you off)

chloechloe · 12/09/2017 19:34

What's your Instagram account elquinto, we can follow you instead. You sound very elegant.

TheLuckyMrsPine · 12/09/2017 20:42

I love teeclutter too, mummasmojo, astylemum and adaintymum

upsidedown2017 · 12/09/2017 20:53

@elQuintoConyo - that's the thing - I don't have time to 'go round the shops' - I have a toddler and no childcare. I need an image online, an outfit worn by a 'real' woman vs a model, with a link so I can order it all.

upsidedown2017 · 12/09/2017 20:56

Another point @elQuintoConyo - at this point I'm quite happy to be a clone and more than happy to copy somebody's outfit from head to toe if I think it'll suit me. After 5 years of minimal sleep and barely a day off I don't have the brain capacity for anything else.

@chloechloe - yes! I found Emma hill recently and love her!

Definitely look at esther - she is very transparent too unlike most on Instagram. Her capsule wardrobe posts on onthespike.com are ideal for anyone with small children who is a bit lost.

I'd swerve most of the other instamums - they're not honest/not transparent/have very large budgets.

mrscampbellblackreturns · 12/09/2017 21:02

I am also liking emma hill and may have ordered a bag upon her recommendation. She is very funny.

upsidedown2017 · 12/09/2017 21:03

@titsandgiggles - teeclutter is a great find thank you!!

@Beadieeye - would love some names! Love French style.

London Mothers Club. Godawful smog name but good style eye candy.

JessiCake · 12/09/2017 21:08

Small child, a bit lost, that was (is!) me Mrscampbellblack (and OP)

Feel a tonne better since spending a couple of hundred quid (mostly at uniqlo!) to get a few capsule bits.

Mostly it just gave me confidence that the clothes I want to wear (practical as well as stylish) don't have to look boring and crap and can actually look pretty good if put together well and worn with confidence and some decent accessories (which I already have lurking from my pre-child days)

Try the blog OP, it might be just what you're looking for.

mrscampbellblackreturns · 12/09/2017 21:13

Jessie - I am a bit past the small children stage but love Esther as she writes so well. She would have been a god-send in the toddler years.

crazypenguinlady · 12/09/2017 21:15

Going to follow for interest.

OP, I understand where you're coming from! I'm a 31 year old mum, whose body and budget has changed since my son was born earlier this year. I'm a size bigger and a lot softer. I feel like I've lost myself, not that I was ever a trend setter but I feel like I've changed since having my son, but dont know into what though Grin I went shopping last weekend but didn't like much Confused my body confidence is quite low as well so hoping to get some inspiration!

Judydreamsofhorses · 12/09/2017 21:16

I'm not sure if she will fit your style brief, but I love Tigerlilyquinn - she does do a lot of brand work and is a full time blogger, but I really like her outfits, and her kids (and cats) are super-cute.

@Miracle33 glad it's not just me feeling like this! It's a bit shit ... hopefully we can get ourselves out of it :)

@JessiCake - any recommendations from Uniqlo? Did you use Esther's blog for help? I've had a quick read and it does look very useful.
