A really waterproof waterproof!

That's it really my old Bearghaus is no longer waterproof after 6 years and I need a new one. I've got warm winter coats so this is really just till then. I work in a school so always out in the playground also weekend walks in the woods and by the sea. If it looks nice that's a bonus. If you have any sizing suggestions too i.e. I wear 12 in M&S but might be tight with some brands. My Bearghaus was a 12.

I'd quite like a bright colour too but main thing is waterproof!!Grin

Seasalt are brilliant - the rain rolls off, properly waterproof and, essential for me, breathable: I had a really expensive North Face "city mac" before my Seasalt that cost a good 50% more and, yes, waterproof, but the lining made me create my own mini monsoon WITHIN the coat. It was sweaty and uncomfortable after 10 minutes of my marching walk commute.

I've got a Hellweathers mac which is perfect for Spring/Autumn and a Janelle fleece lined coat which I use in winter. I'm eyeing up the Westerly mac, too...it's important for me that waterproof coats actually cover my arse, preferably to the knee and Seasalt good for this - if it's raining,I can't see the point of bum freezer jackets.

Paramo. If u want proper water proof, breathable and to look like u are a countryfile presenter (i.e. cool!).

riojaandcorrie · 11/09/2017 14:47

Thanks I've been eyeing the sea salt coats but there's no hellweather one available so I might try another but I'll have a look at Paramo I've never heard of them before. Thank you for your responses, I'm sick of getting soggy.

You don't fancy just re-waterproofing your current jacket? The stuff you can buy in Mountain Warehouse is really good - wash the coat in the special liquid then 'fix' it on a low temp in the tumble dryer.

I've got an amazing Musto raincoat I bought last winter. It's meant to be an equestrian one but you wouldn't know. It's totally wind proof too. I'll see if I can find a link hold up

Kenworthington · 11/09/2017 15:01

Ok this is it just a screenshot I'm afraid. It is £££ but it's AMAZING and also crucially imo looks really good on! I got mine for about £150 , they retail generally at about £300

A really waterproof waterproof!

I think I'd like to try sea salt as my old coat is threadbare and not worth salvaging. I'm usually a 12 in M&S but I find them generous. Should I go for 14 in a sea salt coat?

I think Seasalt are true to size erring on generous if anything. If you can afford to up front, get two sizes and send one back or get to store or John Lewis to try on.

Dancergirl · 12/09/2017 22:01

People talk about Protected Species, they're properly waterproof.

Lotsofsausage · 12/09/2017 23:17

'Rains' are super waterproof - taped seams and gorgeous

riojaandcorrie · 16/09/2017 18:23

I ended up getting a Seasalt Extra Ling Seafolly. At 5'3" it comes to my knees so maybe should have went for long but couldn't be arsed sending it back. I might be glad of the dry knees at some point. I did size up and I'm glad I did because around the chest and top of arms wouldn't have fitted (not big boobs unfortunately, just broad back and biceps 💪). Thanks to all who responded, I'm in Northern Ireland so we don't have the range you guys on the mainland do, so all advice was very welcome. I'm hoping that this will come up if anyone else googles Seasalt sizing because there wasn't much when I did. ☔️

Paramo and Analogy are v posh UK makes of waterproof. Both good.

So are Didriksons, which are Swedish. I have just bought two, one all seasons, and one for very cold wet weather. For under £200 the two.

amixedblessing · 17/09/2017 09:25

From where did you purchase OC ?

OCSockOrphanage · 18/09/2017 17:20

M A Griggs Amixedblessing. It's in Cornwall, but you can use the website. Google is your friendly guide. We used to have a great walking shop locally, but it closed a couple of years ago. DH got his Analogy coat there.

taybert · 18/09/2017 17:40

How do people get on with condensation inside? I don't have an issue finding a waterproof but I always end up with that horrible cold sweat/ condensation inside, even when they're supposed to be breathable. I've seen a didriksons I fancy but it'd only be worth it if it didn't do that!

OCSockOrphanage · 19/09/2017 11:53

All my waterproofs have had some form of lining and I presume I don't perspire very profusely. Plus I usually wear natural fibres.
