Jumpers for curvy women

Branleuse · 10/09/2017 17:27

Im quite curvy. Not particularly big, about a 10/12 clothes size, but ive got big boobs, small waist and big hips. I love big winter jumpers but they all look shit on me and make me look massive. I really feel the cold but I dont want to look like a sack of spuds. Has anyone found any jumpers that are warm and flattering on a pear/hourglass shape?

Im happy to experiment with most styles, but my main styles range from boho/scruffy student to retro glam if im in the mood

No help (sorry) but following with interest!

BusterGonad · 10/09/2017 17:51

I don't think big chunky knits suit people with big boobs/larger size etc.
I have big boobs and am a size 14 what works with me is layering up fine knit wear.

CaseStudyResearch · 10/09/2017 17:52

I'm the same dress size & shape - for fitted jumpers, Warehouse crew neck ones are the best. For anything slouchy/oversized, I just buy a size 8.

Branleuse · 10/09/2017 18:04

Does crew neck not make your tits look massive though?

although I guess they disguise the thermals

I'm a 16, but with an hourglass figure. I've found big big slouchy jumpers just tucked in at the front only look awesome. Can't wear them any other way now. I just picked up two lovely soft v neck ones in H&M and only £20, loads of coulours and v flattering

shitthebeds · 10/09/2017 19:19

I'm a curvy size 12/14 and the Hush Stella jumper is super flattering on me. I have it in an XL and it is slouchy without being tent-like.

CountFosco · 10/09/2017 19:42

I like V neck or cowl neck jumpers. Mint Velvet do lovely cowl neck jumpers that are big (size down a lot!). Agree with tucking slouchy jumpers in at the front. Personally I think a relaxed jumper can drape really nicely over tits, just think of all those 1950s movie stars!

Hairq · 10/09/2017 19:47

It's not thick, but it is deceptively warm - this is a great jumper for hourglasses. V neck so good for big boobs, not skintight so it skims your body rather than clings but isn't so baggy that it adds bulk. I just wish it came in colours that look nicer on me: m.boden.co.uk/en-gb/womens-knitwear/knitted-jumpers/k0023-red/womens-post-box-red-tilly-v-neck-jumper

notanotherlasagne · 10/09/2017 19:52

Go for thin knits like merino - neat crew necks or deep v necks are good. Avoid heavy knit or cabling bad and opt for judicious use of layering vests underneath - and don't be afraid of a thin knot polo neck especially on with deep ribbing at cuffs and hem; not sure why this works but it does! Me&Em are speedy but do great knitwear and very good sales; Jigsaw worth a look too...

PantPlot · 10/09/2017 19:59

I'm a similar size/shape and can't do chunky knits unless I want to look like a couch, but love a fine knit merino or cashmere etc crew neck or even a high neck/polo.

Fashion rules say I should stick to scoop or v neck, but even with big boobs I don't find them particularly flattering. I think I have a combination of long neck/high boobs and short waist (I know you're all jealous.)

WallisFrizz · 10/09/2017 20:04

Good thread Op. fashion seems to be anti-waist at the moment. So many things are loose fitting tops to go with skinny jeans, which is fine if you haven't got a slim torso with a big bum, chunky thighs and cleavage.

I do jersey jackets for smart warmth, or woolen dresses or tunics which have more shape..

Branleuse · 11/09/2017 07:22

Thanks for the suggestions and tips

If you are near a Bravissimo, why not try on some of their knitwear,, it is designed for your sort of shape and there might be something that appeals.

I think that when it comes to dressing to emphasise a small waist, nothing is as good as trying on different styles and sizes and seeing what fits and suits.

Cardigans that just come in at the waist can be good for emphasising that past of your figure (a classic Nigella ploy)

Bodicea · 11/09/2017 08:55

Agree with all that lasagne says. Thin knits with crew neck, deep v's and polo Nevis are my staples. I also love boat neck and off the shoulder knits. But the main thing is to keep the knit thin. I always layer up in the winter so have a drawer full of vests and low necked long sleeve Ts to go under everything. I sometimes think a longer under layer or two showing below the hem of the main jumper can look quite cool.

jenthehen · 11/09/2017 09:49

I like boat neck poncho style knitwear and joules did some nice, thin knit, slouchy style jumpers last year which seemed to work.

TheOtherGirl · 11/09/2017 11:24

I agree that fine knits are more flattering with a deep scoop neck and a thin vest showing underneath.

I've seen a lot of instagrammers tucking in just the very front bit of their knit and it looks really good. It makes your legs look longer but think your tummy needs to be flat to carry it off mine isn't

Branleuse · 11/09/2017 18:02

Some good suggestions. I cant really do the tucking in thing as im normally in leggings and a dress. Trousers are another thing i can never get to fit boyh my hios and my waist

I gave up on jumpers and stick to cardigns, the smaller knit ones are better as the chunky ones make you look bigger

WhiteHairReally · 12/09/2017 08:51

If fine knit cardigans etc are the way to go, Uniqlo Heat Tech camis etc are your friends. www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/women/innerwear-and-loungewear/heattech

They keep you warm when needed but don't cause overheating like traditional Thermal Vests. They are very thin and smoothing.

Cardigans are apparently 'in' this season, but most look chunky, which we've established are not the Well Endowed Woman's friend.

ItsLikeRainOnYourWeddingDay · 12/09/2017 09:22

Have a look at ASOS. They have a huge range of jumpers. If you look at the curve (plus size) section you can see how the more curvy ladies style then and what styles they wear. I know that you are far from plus size but you should get an idea of flattering knits.

notanotherlasagne · 14/09/2017 16:02

I've just found some excellent fine knit jumpers in crew and round neck in Esprit - some A-line, all slightly longer at the back and perfect with a long line vest - £29 and loads of colours...

Branleuse · 14/09/2017 16:13

if anyones interested, ive just got this jumper, which hangs really nicely and ive been wearing it with leggings and a vest underneath, the neckline is nice
