Wardrobe revamp - where to shop for quality basics?

I have realised I've barely bought myself any new clothes in years, last time was probably when I was buying maternity clothes around 3 years ago! It's time for a new wardrobe!

My old approach used to be to buy lots of cheap clothes, and replace them regularly. I'm fed up of clothes that loose their shape after a couple of washes, and generally looking a bit scruffy though so I think it's time I went for the quality over quantity approach. Haven't got a clue where to start though it's been so long, where should I be looking? Don't have a fortune to spend but happy to pay for quality clothes that are going to last.
I'm mid-30s, a 12/14 and on the shorter side if that makes a difference.

I'm a similar age and size to you and like to shop at GAP, Hush and Oasis. Occasionally Joules and Topshop.

I would say GAP is very good for basics such as best tops, plain tops, skinny trousers.

I've found good quality in Uniqlo, H&M and M&S but I've also had absolute dross from all of them. It's consistently good quality that's very hard to find in my opinion. I think the only place where I've bought a fair amount of stuff and never had anything ropey is Toast and I know that's not everyone's taste.

Cos is normally rated for quality - I've not yet bought enough or had it long enough to be sure. Pure Collection is another - their style is very classic and I've not bought much but happy so far. Also Landsend which I used to turn my nose up at but their basics e.g. T shirts have washed well.
