What do 35 year olds wear?!

I'm 35 got 2 children and feel really frumpy! What do stylish 35 year olds wear?! It needs to be practical and comfortable still. Where should I shop? Are there such a thing as comfy but stylish shoes? I don't know where to start!

I get nearly everything from Cos / & Other Stories / occasional Monki although strictly speaking we are too old for Monki. Uniqlo for basics. Bits of Whistles in the sale for work. Started because I was avoiding TopShop for political reasons and now it seems that I give the Swedes all my money.

And I have become a sneaker head. Just get really into trainers. That's my advice. And get one pair of the best you can afford plain flat ankle boots in the January sales each year and look after them.

Simplify makeup if you wear it - I don't wear much colour anymore, just nice tinted moisturiser, hourglass powder, bronzy smoky pencil.

Wear whatever you want! What you like and what is comfortable! Outside of work clothes I tend to wear jeans, skinny or boyfriend. Variety of tops- Bretons, linen tees, floaty cotton tops in summer. Cashmere jumper or sweatshirts if it's chilly. I love jackets/coats so have loads, trophy jackets, biker, parka, wool coats for winter. I'm short so skirts that fall just above the knee. I have a couple of pairs of ankle boots but honestly I'm a trainer fiend so wear them more- Stan smiths, nikes or converse depending on my mood!

Watching with interest - I'm 35 with a toddler and newborn and am in desperate need of a complete wardrobe overhaul (once I can fit back into non-maternity clothes!)

I had been getting a lot of wear out of my Uniqlo and Joules stuff with my trusty Converse trainers for casual and Hobbes/Ted Baker for workwear but I definitely wouldn't class myself as "stylish" and am desperate for other ideas!!

Definitely agree that a good pair of trainers is essential - I'm onto my fourth consecutive pair of Converse but thinking of getting something slightly sturdier for winter (maybe Adidas Stan Smiths), and I have a pair of black Campers ankle boots bought over four years ago which I still wear to death - they are very comfortable and go with almost everything. I am dreading the day I need to replace them!

Could have written this. I'm liking Hush right now.

I circulate very few pairs of shoes - Salties/converse in summer, uggs/converse/wellies in winter. Lotta clogs when I want heels. So when one wears out I don't have to think about it I just replace in a new colour. I have a selection of pre baby footwear in case I ever need. Hasn't happened yet.

I find hush good as it feels nice but casual. I feel a bit reluctant to wear a £50 pair of joggers to a grotty Childens centre where I may have to sit on the floor though.

Watching for tips.

Ps I'm 35 and have 4 and 2 year old.

ChickenBhuna · 07/09/2017 20:34

Please wear what you like OP. I'm around your age and have always leaned towards fifties style clothing and know that dresses suit me. I've just adapted that as I've aged.

What suits you and what do you feel most comfortable in?

QueenofLouisiana · 07/09/2017 22:11

I'm a bit older and DS is 12, so less sitting around on the floor. I'm wearing a Boohoo ruched dress today. Ruching hides the worst of my tummy, its knee length so not too skimpy and has been really comfy- from work to coffee with friends tonight.

I was in Fit flop ballet flats today, but also wear Chelsea boots, superga and long boots on autumn.

CountFosco · 07/09/2017 22:17

Well according to the other age 35 thread today Doreen brad Grin.

But wear what you like. I've got 10 years on you and think my colleagues of 35 are young but not hideously so (not like the 20 somethings who are all wearing the clothes I wore when I was in my 20s but have far worse musical taste. Shudder). In other words able to wear whatever they like.

TitusAndromedon · 07/09/2017 22:20

I'm 35 with two young children. I had a John Lewis personal shopping session and told the shopper I wanted to look effortlessly cool. That's embarrassing, but basically I wanted things that were basic and versatile, but with a little extra edge. I really recommend doing something like that if you're feeling a little lost in terms of your style. I came away with a few great things that I wear constantly.

I mostly wear skinny jeans or leggings and jumpers or oversized shirts in autumn/winter with ballet flats or Chelsea boots and have a nice fitted coat. I also feel more polished when wearing jewellery. I've just bought a few jumper dresses to wear with tights so I've got a few more options.

Peopleplease · 09/09/2017 15:47

allthepinkunicorns do you have any links for the jumper dresses - I'm looking for a few nice ones.

Allthepinkunicorns · 10/09/2017 12:30

I got some from asos, they have quite a large collection on there at the moment. :)

InvisibleKittenAttack · 10/09/2017 13:11

I'm older, but still in 30s (just!). I own a lot of clothes from Oasis and New look. (I'm also short, so these flatter me, might not you.)

Bodicea · 10/09/2017 22:19

I am a size 10 with boobs and slim legs. I like to dress just a tiny bit prim and/or girlish. I can't pull off cool ( boobs aren't cool). So I dont do the converse trainers look. I wear a lots of dresses and skirts. Mostly skater style and quite short. My tops tend to be plain in colour. Bare legs and wedges/ nice flip flops in the summer. Tights and boots in the winter. I feel better with a heel most of the time.
I seem to buy a lot of French connection in the sale. Boden for plain knitwear - non of their weird patterned stuff. Tk max throws up the odd nice piece. I got lots of gorgeous designer skirts last year. River island is good for going out stuff. Their leggings are the best. I love shiny/wet look leggings with spikey heels and a slightly flowy top. I do wear skinny jeans too, anything highwaisted - French connection rebound are amazing.
