Best way to add volume to flat thin hair?

I'm hoping you guys can help I have fairly long thin flat hair, nothing I can do seems to add any volume I've tried tones of different shampoos and products but nothing works, tried back combing the roots but 20 min it's flat again andI've tried blow drying upside down,

I was thinking about buying the babyliss secret curl but heard so many mixed reviews I didn't want to waste the money if it's going to be rubbish. I've also read on here people recommend heated rollers, would they be any good? I've never used them but I'm open to the idea

Thanks

I've been using John Frieda 'Fine to Full Blow Out spray' - it's brilliant stuff. It works well on dry hair too so you can give it a final blast with the hair dryer to sort of set it.
I used velcro rollers at the front and spray them for a bit of added oomph.

Dry shampoo can help, although it can be overpowering. The John Frieda 7 day volume stuff is pretty good too.
I've yet to find anything that works wonders though BUT I haven't tried anything costing very much either.
I look at people and their hair a fair bit and fine flat hair can look good, but I not sure it suits me.

Overpowering scent wise that shoud be.

NeverEnoughSleep1 · 07/09/2017 07:22

Thanks for the help I'll look into the John Frieda stuff today

I have tried some tony and guy dry shampoo that someone said was good for adding volume and texture but it was absolutely useless for anything

Any idea on the heated curlers?

Curlers of any variety are the absolute best.

Personanongrata80 · 07/09/2017 07:32

Babyliss curl secret good but it takes me a while to do. Babyliss big hair (rotating brush dryer) is excellent. Maybe cut it shorter too as the length may be adding to the flatness.

I use this stuff, its fab. That and a short and snappy pixie crop. I have fine and thinning grey hair, nightmare!

Elasticiser by Philip Kingsley can help although it is pricey.

I use the babyliss curling wand. I have fine hair and not much of it. No product I've tried made any difference but this makes my hair really nice and it was only £20. Very easy to use, lots of tutorials on YouTube.

I use sea salt spray to add volume and waves to my fine limp straight hair.
I have just ordered Big shampoo and conditioner from Lush which was recommended on here, it's made with sea salt. I will let you know once I have tested it.

Things like Babyliss Big Hair and Velcro rollers are great for adding bounce and for styling, but for real root lift I'd recommend

  1. Got2b powderful pictured above. It's a bit sticky but it does work, and it's quick.
  1. Babyliss Root Boost - it's a really thin heated crimper for the roots. Does the same job as backcombing but it's more precise - you put the volume exactly where you want it, and it stays in. It's brilliant.

I'll second @peaceandl0ve recommendation. If you're ok with your hair feeling like it has product in it, this stuff (or another hair powder, but this is one of the cheapest) plus light backcombing at the roots will give volume and hold it all day.

Thanks everyone going to have a look online at some of the suggestions and see the reviews, I am getting some length cut off so hoping that will help

I've tried everything and the one thing that really works for me is hair gel. Sounds so weird but it honestly works. When your hair is dry,rub some gel on your palms, tip your head upside done and pat it all over the underside. Quick blast with the dryer (or let it dry naturally) then lightly brush it through. Adds grip and texture.

ppeatfruit · 07/09/2017 15:33

I gave up artificially drying and straightening my hair, it doesn't help the condition. I use a very natural shampoo and condition the ends only. Get a good quality comb, not brush, comb it upside down , use a soft hair band and tie it up high overnight or any time. maybe have a good haircut.

Also massage by putting your fingertips either side of the centre parting and move backwards and forwards. Then round the lower back. of your scalp . This encourages the blood flow to your scalp and really thickens the hair well it works well for me. Do it 3 times morning and evening

Redken Quick Tease 15. Definitely look at it. Feel unique have it cheap just now aswell. Amazing stuff.
