Hello, can anyone help with recommendations for conditioners/hair masks for very dry, frizzy hair? My hair is so dry and although I'm using a Charles Worthington moisture shampoo and conditioner which does leave my hair feeling very soft, it still looks dry and frizzy. Anyone got something tried and tested xx

I'm having the same trouble op and your hair sounds like mine. I used to use bumble and bumble deeeep conditioner yrs ago - expensive but really worked so I'm going to try it again..... xx Grin

Rinse out conditioners/treatments can only do so much. You'd be much better off using a really good leave-in conditioner. Sebastian Potion 9 is a product that works very well. It's quite expensive but once you've tried it you'll undertsand why it costs so much. Hope this helps

SparklingRaspberry · 06/09/2017 12:22

Coconut oil!

Shove it on, tie your hair up for a couple of hours or overnight, rinse off and it'll feel and look silky smooth

Once I month I slather the oil everywhere including my roots.
Once a week I just put it on the length of my hair.

Davines range is amazing (online or from hairdressers or Liberty). I really like the Love smoothing conditioner but they do even richer ones. Amazing range, totally saved my post baby hair.

I find what makes the biggest difference for me is combing the treatment or conditioner through my hair in the shower. Even a more basic conditioner works so much better if combed through to get all the strands. I have wavy frizzy hair and I like the elvive treatments in the pots. I use them as a normal conditioner each time I wash my hair.

I am a bit hair obsessed and these are my 3 top hair conditioning treatments in order of fabulousness:

  1. Keratin treatment. Pricey but make your hair look fantastic. I am just about to do it at home rather than pay £200+ for it.
  2. Philip Kingsley's Elasticiser. Use once a week.
  3. Oil - warm base oil and add essential oils, paint on hair, leave for an hour, wash out.
  4. Use Argan Oil as a hair serum

Ooh thanks everyone! Some great ideas for me to try! Really appreciate the responses 👍

I cannot recommend too highly Macadamia deep conditioning masque. It actually makes hair soft and wishy.

Yes to Banyan and the keratin treatment. With a groupon offer you should be able to get it for c. £40 - 50.

Elasticiser doesn't do much for me - a shame as I bought a salon size tub!!

If you're looking for something cheaper, I find the shampoo and conditionersfor afro hair cheap and intensely moisturising.

TwoKidsAndCounting · 06/09/2017 13:07

I'd second coconut oil but leave it in for a couple of days, wash hair as normal and it'll be silky smooth! Your hair does look obviously greasy and it's not a treatment for the very groomed or self concious amongst us but you'll get the results you want

I've used one from lush that I found bloody amazing!! Slightly weird smell but made me hair so soft and silky. I try and use once every two weeks Grin

There's a new Lush shop just opened near me so will give that a try, thanks! Think I'll have to buy a range of the different ones suggested and see which works best! Interesting about the Afro hair products; my hair can be very coarse so they might be a good fit. Thanks for the recommendations!

OSMO hair mask... life changing for me!

PookieSnackenberger · 06/09/2017 18:38

Phillip Kingsley Elasticiser - I just do the ends with this as it's ££

Lee Stafford Hair Growth Treatment - love the smell of this, it's reasonably priced and lasts ages

If your hair is really soft, but still looks dry and frizzy, i would guess that it needs protein rather than moisture.

The best protein treatment in the world is gelatin (plain unflavoured, from the baking department in the supermarket). Honestly, its amazing. Google it and see the results, I wish I'd done a before and after picture the first time I did a gelatin treatment. You need to Google the full method though, you need to add a bit of apple cider vinegar to adjust the PH level I think. Iwould link but can't from this laptop.

Otherwise try the coconut oil treatment, but not everyones hair likes coconut and it can react badly and feel like straw (in which case leave a deep conditioner on over night).

Its bloody complicated getting the moisture-protein balance right in your hair, but when you get it right you'll be amazed.

You can also buy protein treatments (with and without coconut) if you don't want to make up your own, but gelatin is the best I've found by far.

oldmanfromscene24 · 06/09/2017 19:21

Be aware of over moisturising too. Try alternating a deep moisture mask with a protein deep conditioner. The best ever ever hair mask (seriously can't praise it enough) is khair pep - it's bloody expensive though Blush it's a leave in one. You can get a smaller tube for circa £17 or a bigger tub for about 50 Shock seriously though - it is the bollocks!!

Hairq · 06/09/2017 21:07

Jasmine and Henna Fluff Ease (I think it's called) from Lush is amazing. It smells extremely strong, but if you don't mind that it's a really good treatment.

Hereslookingatyoukid · 06/09/2017 22:06

That's really interesting- I didn't know about the protein thing. My hair always feels pretty soft but looks dry so it sounds like that's where I've been going wrong. Thank you for the suggestions!

Anyone used the Revlon Uniq One All in One leave in conditioner? Just come across really good reviews on Amazon but not sure they are always objective!

Before I went for the chop and had longer (dry, porous, flyaway) hair, I used uniq1. It was really good. It doesn't do everything it claims but it definitely helped tame, shine and give my thin hair more body.

Hereslookingatyoukid · 07/09/2017 00:17

@LetZygonsbeZygones thank you! (I've finally remembered how to respond to individual posters) That's really interesting as it's not too pricey either so if it doesn't do all that's promised I'm not too out of pocket! Have you gone very short? I've had mine cropped a couple of times and always love it but then get bored and start growing it; I'm determined to keep it a bit longer this time and work on getting it in better condition!

OP posts:
LetZygonsbeZygones · 07/09/2017 18:01

hereslooking. Yep I've gradually gone shorter till it's now a pixie cut. But my hair is very thin and fine, even more than it used to be before menopause. It just can't hold a style, unless v v short now. But if you mainly have frizz and untameability probs I reckon Unique1 will help. Good luck.
