I used Lush Henna a few years back. It was ok but it's so bloody expensive as a brand and I resent paying over the odds.
Do you have a brand of henna you are impressed with and are there any cooking/ recipe tips you can share?
I have darkish brown shoulder length fine but thick hair and fancy a change .

Oh yes! I just discovered one on eBay I will find the link in a second. Basically I have found that Moroccan henna is better than Indian henna for hair. It has a shorter development time and stronger colour

Surya Henna as it's pre mixed so saves lots of time and mess.

AdalindSchade · 06/09/2017 07:15

The lush stuff is really annoying and faffy.

Veterinari · 06/09/2017 07:16

I use pre mixed Henne henna - you can buy it on amazon - its quick and works well

Thankyou!

Watching with interest. I used cheap stuff off amazon but it dried my hair out and made it a bit frizzy...

I order from www.suvarna.co.uk/itspure-organics-hair-dyes.html#.Wa-vS6hSxhE

The Its Pure Henna/Indigo mixture covers grey hair and I've been very satisfied with the result. One package can work for two separate applications if you have short hair or just want to do the roots.

I get body art quality henna from ebay, mix it up with some hot water and lemon, leave it overnight then plop it on and rinse after about 3 hours.

AdalindSchade · 06/09/2017 09:59

Leaving henna overnight isn't ideal as the colour can break down if you leave it too long.
Using warm tea rather than water can intensify the colour.
Henna is drying so an argan oil treatment after is good.

thanks. I like the idea of ready made up henna. I have read that you need to cook it in double boiler ( bowl over water) for an hour to get the dye to release, then you need to put in something acidic, then if you want it redder you need to wrap your hair, less red don't wrap. I am terribly confused. I suppose with ready made stuff you don't have that dilemma?

What do you mean ready made up? YOu buy it as powder and add warm water to make it up. It's not that complicated. Look for Moroccan henna powder, use warm tea to mix, cover and leave for 2 hours, apply to head, wrap in cling film and leave for 2-4 hours

ProperLavs · 06/09/2017 14:32

thanks

My colour always comes out lovely after leaving it overnight. I sometimes just leave it 4 or 5 hours depends how organised i am before i do it.

EmmyInTheSticks · 06/09/2017 15:35

The ready made stuff - or Surya really as that's all I know is like a dark liquid you apply to your hair. No lumpy bits etc. It's like conventional hair dye except you leave it on longer. It is much easier than mixing your own! I've been there and done that with the Lush stuff.
