Winter work wardrobe

All of my clothes have seen better days so I need to get some new winter stuff.

What do you wear for work in winter. I work in an office, non customer facing. We need to look fairy smart, no jeans or sports wear but not uber-conservative, suits etc.

I can get away with leggings for example but not trainers.

Please inspire me! I am thinking Asos/Dorothy Perkins prices rather that Cos or Boden.

I go for Cos/Boden/similar but from ebay to get the DP price points.

I'm also in an office and do sometimes see customers but I tend to have more fancy outfits for those.
For days when I won't really see anyone, I usually wear practical trousers (chino style cut, but sometimes winter weight - I prefer wool and try to get Boden on sale for example but there are lots of washable ones out there that wear well).
Long sleeved t-shirt.
Thin cardy (it's often quite warm in our office) in bright colours, or bright or stripy top with darker cardy, chunky necklace.
Or a dress and opaques.

I am on the lookout actually for some more cycling-friendly skirts - I find that opaques are really good wet weather cycling gear as they dry really quickly. I am on the lookout for A line, knee length, "active wear" type fabric and preferably in more interesting colours than just black!

Have you looked at Uniqlo? Quite plain stuff, reasonably priced, not bad quality.

I don't like buying from Ebay as I am funny about clothes and need to try stuff on. Sleeves in particular are difficult for me, I hate things stuck up my armpits.

Are wool trousers lined? I would hate to have itchy material on the backs of my legs all day.

I am so fussy aren't I!

Wool trousers come in lined, half lined (down to knees only) and unlined. I don't really like unlined either unless they are very lightweight/polyester mix in which case they are OK.

I buy tried and tested brands/sizes from Ebay and only buy cheap enough that I wouldn't mind if it was dreadful (I don't mind wasting a couple of quid on something I wear twice and send to the charity shop).

Oh and shoes wise, I wear Campers and patent Mary-janes, basically, Campers last for ever and patent shoes are easy to keep clean.
Long black boots in winter.

Thanks you are very helpful.

Drspouse- where do you get your patent Mary Janes from? They sound lovely.
My favourite winter outfit are wide legged wool trousers, semi fitted cotton jumper, and brogues.

WhycantIhavearealwand · 05/09/2017 14:06

I'm client facing but not in a terribly formal organisation so I tend to wear jersey dresses with thin cardis or pointe blazers (oasis and miss selfridge good for these, tights with boots or shoe boots. I'm small (5ft) so find dresses easier than suits, trousers etc.

I like boden dresses but find them often too low cut and/or expensive so keen to find similar elsewhere if anyone has any tips!

NachoAddict · 05/09/2017 14:26

I am short too 5ft 2 so dresses tend to be easier.

I can't carry off wide leg trousera because of being so little and I can't be doing with heels.

Tiedie just from Clarks, they are ancient.

bananafish81 · 05/09/2017 15:52

Uniqlo trousers, shirts, blouses and Merino wool sweaters and cardigans

Everything washes like a dream and very few reasonably priced

EmmaC78 · 05/09/2017 16:30

Tesco have some nice patent Mary Janes at the moment Tiedie.

drspouse · 06/09/2017 11:28

I'm just ordering a few stretchy skirts from Sainsbo's...
