Confused about bra sizes

My DD has just turned 14, and I noticed her bras were looking a little on the snug side, so measured her to see if her size had changed. She's currently wearing a 34b and I've now measured her as a 36a which is the same size as me. I consider myself to be fairly small in the boob department, but DD appears to me to be bigger than me and has a pretty impressive cleavage (which I think she tends to be embarrassed about as she's not really a girly girl). Just a bit confused at how we can apparently be the same size but look totally different. I got her to try on one of my new bras which looked a pretty good fit except she didn't like the underwires.

Once I was past a normal G I stopped looking in M+S.

M&S and Debenhams come out very similar at my size.
Bra sizing is a nonsense anyway with all these doubles. Would make much more sense to just go from A to Z or however far down the alphabet is needed.

SilverAndCold · 12/09/2017 03:14

ferrier it really is isn't it! A-Z would make so much more sense.

So in M&S or Debenhams the 32G would be the same size as the standard sizing?

dementedpixie · 12/09/2017 06:07

No because m&s miss out the FF so you would probably need the GG

SilverAndCold · 12/09/2017 06:08

Ah ok- will try that- thanks!

I got measured in M&S at the weekend and I don't think I have ever in my life had a bra that fits so well and so comfortably. My clothes and body look instantly better.

I definitely recommend getting measured properly.

When I put my old bra back on I couldn't believe how ridiculously uncomfortable it was.

You do need to try on a few different styles because your boobs will prefer one style over another as they will be cut slightly differently etc but I have to say the first bra she chose for me was bang on size wise and comfort wise.

Can I just drop into this thread that I have seen bras on sale in South America that only have a band size, no cup size Shock Shock

I can't begin to imagine how that can possibly work....
