Help me to be warm and stylish

I am struggling, please help. I share an office with two blokes who refuse to have the heating on unless it's actually below zero outside. Ok that's exaggerating a bit, but I am cold a lot of the time through Autumn. Dress code isn't smart enough for a suit jacket but big woolly knits look too casual (I think). Have tried thermals but it made no real difference and some thermal tops come up high around the neckline so are visible.

I have lots of work clothes, skinny trousers, dresses, fitted skirts, blouses and cardigans in particular - I sort of need something that I can add to my existing outfits. Being cold is miserable.

Any ideas please?

Uniqlo heat tech!

It's the frozen dog's bollocks and I'm practically cold-blooded.

I bought (in the sale) a super hot merino wool skater style dress from whistles. I am planning on wearing it at home with thermal tights and uggs. My husband and I are both studying and he likes heating off (and windows open if possible..)
You have my sympathies!

LoveBeingAMum555 · 04/09/2017 22:17

I couldn't survive without thermal tights, in fact a stretchy skirt and thermal tights is warmer than trousers. Loving the skater dress and Uggs, wish I could get away with Uggs in the office.

Off to research Uniqlo, if I could get something I could wear underneath tops and blouses that would be a massive help.

Yes, I'm not sure that uggs are acceptable in many places but once your feet are warm everything else feels better.
We were in the Himalayas at Christmas and bought lots of lovely merino layers from Mountain Warehouse of all places. And Uniqlo too.
Good luck staying warm.

M&S heatgen under your clothes.

A coatigan can look reasonably smart?

LoveBeingAMum555 · 05/09/2017 22:43

Thanks all, have ordered some heatgen long sleeved tops and some Uniqlo camisoles. I thought about a coatigan or a knitted jacket of some kind but I am quite petite and most are just too long. Saw a lovely fine knit poncho type wrap today in a local shop but wondered if this would work sitting at a desk or whether it would just get in the way (and possibly look a bit odd).

Fleece lined opaque tights are amazing, just look like normal opaques. I find toasty feet really helps. Also sheepskin insoles in shoes/boots.
Thermal long sleeve top, blouse, merino cardigan, scarf at neck. Job done

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 06/09/2017 08:48

Thermal leggings and vest under your normal clothing.

Also definitely invest in some fur lined boots and also stylish, woollen scarves. If your feet and neck are warm, you'll be fine.

mowglik · 06/09/2017 08:50

fleece lined tights if you wear them, also ugg do leather boots in lots of styles with the sheepskin lining which are almost as snuggly as their sheepskin boots. I have reynauds and feel the cold terribly but agree if your feet are warm it really helps.

Uniqlo thermal tops and leggings they are super thin and can go under blouses and jumpers.

When it's really cold I will admit to wearing uniqlo leggings under my jeans/trousers and I am toasty as anything!

Ive been known to put a Woolley hat on but I do work from home Grin

FlorenceLyons · 06/09/2017 09:05

Is there a compromise you could reach with your colleagues about the temperature? Or is there any chance of moving to a different desk/office? It doesn't seem fair if they get to be comfortable and you don't.

If not I think I'd be piling on the layers and not worrying too much about looking professional!

MaryLennoxsScowl · 06/09/2017 09:54

My office is freezing and my colleague has a big wool wrap shawl that she wears at her desk and takes off for external meetings. I want one!

LoveBeingAMum555 · 09/09/2017 21:45

Thanks all. I do sometimes think I should forget looking smart and go in wearing an enormous woolly poncho then if anyone comments I can explain why I am wearing it but perhaps that's a bit childish . Have complained about being cold but I am outnumbered.

The scarf comments are interesting - what do you think about polo necks? Grannyish or not?

Fleece lined boots.

Lovebeing this isn't really a style and beauty response but if you don't take a Vitamin D supplement it might be worth it to try taking one. I used to be unable to cope with the cold and I was actually deficient in Vitamin D. It's extremely common in the UK.
