Warm waterproof winter coat for DD

DizzyMerry11 · 04/09/2017 14:10

DD starts reception tomorrow and I'd like to get her a waterproof winter coat and don't really know where to look. So far I've managed to find a joules one but not sure whether it would be warm enough for the whole of winter, the reviews suggest it is. I have linked to said coat. Has anyone got any ideas if this is suitable or should I be looking elsewhere? Also any suggestions where I can get lined wellies for her?

Thank you Smile

I always get mine from go outdoors or decathlon. They are 100% waterproof/ windproof and hoods stay up. My sons was from the sailing section in decathlon. I find the ones from high street stores are often not properly waterproof.

MyHairNeedsASnip · 04/09/2017 14:39

I found the more technical coats fitted my requirements the best. Last year I got a Trespass Gizella and this year I got a Regatta Hollybank. Both properly waterproof and windproof.

DizzyMerry11 · 04/09/2017 14:59

Thanks for your suggestions and I do agree that highstreet coats are not properly waterproof despite what they claim . I used to have similar to the uniqlo ones when I was at secondary along with most of the school and I actually hated it!

I would prefer something a little cheerful looking but obviously keeping warm and dry is the first priority as we will be walking to school.

You can get cheerful ones, last year's was bright pink and this year's is a nice purple colour. Have a look, some are lovely. I needed something down to DD's knees because we walk to school in rainy manchester so I was limited but if you're not too bothered about length there's some really nice ones.

FreeButtonBee · 04/09/2017 16:23

Polarn o poret ones are awesome. Raincoat which you can add a fleece layer to in the colder months. But not cheap. As my kids are rarely in the car during the week (london traffic!) we do get the wear out of them.

Nyancat · 04/09/2017 16:30

We usually have polarn o pyret ones which are fab, but they are expensive, they suit as they come in yellow/green/red so easy to hand down from DD to DS. But DD did have a mountain warehouse 3 in 1 coat at one time which actually i think was a bit better than the polarn ones as the fleece zipped in and out rather than poppers, and about half the price. Both were totally waterproof as we have a fairly long walk to school in all sorts of weather.

Didrikson sell lovely warm and waterproof coats.

Rinkydinkypink · 04/09/2017 16:32

I also go with trespass, regatta etc. They usually last and wash really well.

DizzyMerry11 · 04/09/2017 17:22

HairNeedsASnip just had a look and yes they do have some nice bright colours and sizes are available too, thanks.

I'll have a look at the other suggestions too.

we found north face coats to be amazing quality, used to pass it down from dd1 to dd2 then even pass them on to younger relatives they still lasted, but this was over 10 years ago and i have heard quality has changed, lands end usually have some lovely coats and can get one reasonably price if there is a discount code around
Columbia coats also lasted us well and are usually well priced on Amazon

stargirl1701 · 04/09/2017 18:53

Polarn O Pyret or Didriksons.

hoyhoy44 · 04/09/2017 19:46

i was going to link viking kids which had a great range of didriksons but it seems they closed a few months ago which is a shame as they had great selection, hopefully someone will know another similar site

MulhuddartDrive · 04/09/2017 21:52

I got lovely ones for dd and ds on mountain warehouse. (Currently having a sale, so lots are half price!)

jelliedeel · 04/09/2017 21:53

Lands End expedition parkas were one of my best ever buys. Waterproof and very warm with grow-a-long arm things to extend the life of the coats. My DDs loved these coats and after 3 years they still looked like new.

jelliedeel · 04/09/2017 21:55

We've got the Uniqlo ones linked above and they'll be good for autumn but definitely not winter. Also they are not waterproof....great coats though.

littleredpear · 04/09/2017 22:00

Muddy puddles coats have been fab for my DDs

DizzyMerry11 · 06/09/2017 21:22

Haven't had a chance to look into any yet as been busy but will be a job for tomorrow. Thank you.

M&S have a pink rain mac that has a removable quilted lining for warmth - its perfect for my DD in that it's waterproof and properly warm.

AppleAndBlackberry · 07/09/2017 12:15

My 2 have Trespass ski jackets for school this year, I got them quite cheaply on the internet because they're last season's. Seem really good quality and warm.

Spudlet · 07/09/2017 12:18

I got ds a Mountain Warehouse 3 in 1 coat recently, half price. I really like their children's clothes, they do the job of keeping them warm and dry and the prices are generally quite reasonable.

wonkylegs · 07/09/2017 12:32

DS has always had Asda George winter coats for school
We've never had a problem with them not being waterproof enough, they come in bright colours, they are warm, wash well and don't cost the earth so if they ever went missing I wouldn't wince too much (always a possibility with school)

He has another regatta coat which is lovely but I'm not convinced it's that much better than the George one.

Pengweng · 07/09/2017 20:19

Muddy puddles coats are really good.

Stokey · 07/09/2017 20:22

I've gone for Boden for the last couple for Dd1, then passed down to Dd2. If you wait for a discount, they're normally about £35 and last for two years (depending on how much your DC grow!). The one passed on to Dd2 last year did break at the zip on its third year, bit it was easy to get fixed.

Stokey · 07/09/2017 20:23

Oh meant to add, they're really warm, waterproof and come in bright colours.
