Is a dry cut normal for restyle

Found a hairdresser on fb, excellent recommendations etc booked in for restyle and blow dry etc

Went today and provided pictures what I wanted, basically a bob with suits my fine hair and also provided photos of what I really hate the really graduated choppy back, I like sleek!

Arrived today with clean hair, messy as washed yesterday and just shoved in ponytail, hairdresser then begs in cutting my dry hair and just straightened the ends, I stopped her a few times as was concerned as I just could see any shape forming (I usually do when having a bob cut) she then showed me the back and it was just all different lengths choppy etc

Said I was unhappy so she said that was the graduation and she could cut it out my hair got shorter and shorter and I could still see it was uneven so just stopped her and told her I didn't want any more cut it was already a good two inches shorter than what I wanted, instead of touching shoulders it's now chin length

I have never had a dry cut before and when I have my hair done I expect to come out with styled hair that looks clean and sleek

Hairdresser says that dry cuts are the best way is this right?

Pick included to show uneven

No, dry cuts aren't normal ime. I've never heard of this.

My hairdresser will often do a bit of extra cutting after blow drying but it's mostly done while wet.

Did you pay this person?

Want2beme · 02/09/2017 20:15

I've always been under the impression that wet hair is better to cut than dry. I quite like the back in pic 1. What picture did you show her of the style you wanted?

delilahbucket · 02/09/2017 20:17

I've only ever had one dry cut at Supercuts. Never ever again, it was dreadful. No one can achieve a professional finish cutting dry hair.

TashieWoo · 02/09/2017 20:17

Not good, I've never had a dry cut and I've been to many salons. If she wasn't the boss, go back and speak to the manager about sorting it out, then when it's sorted make sure you write a bad review. Sorry this happened to you and hope you're able to get it sorted soon.

usder · 02/09/2017 20:21

It was more the unevenness I was concerned about she kept saying it's straight but I could see it wasn't she kept offering to keep cutting but I stopped her

Wasn't a salon she works from home in a salon but insisted a dry cut was the best way to cut hair

From the front one side is longer than the other to

Where is the picture of what you wanted?

I go to a unisex Salam and he wets down my hair to cut - I don't want it washed as clean and want to be in and out quick

usder · 02/09/2017 20:24

My hair is actually now shorter at front than it is at the back

My hair is awkward and moves once dried (whatever that means) but my hairdresser still cuts shape wet then dries and recuts/adds texture.

So no not normal. Surely if booked for a restyle then she would know it needed washing. Def don't go back!

AltogetherAndrews · 02/09/2017 20:35

I get my hair dry cut, but that's because it's huge and curly, and if it gets washed first the hairdresser can't see the shape. He always gives it a wash and blow dry after. I have never heard of a dry cut on straight hair.

BarbaraOcumbungles · 02/09/2017 20:37

I always have my hair cut dry as I've found I always get a better result. My hairdresser is fantastic though and I've been using her for ten years - I'd have never gone back if she'd have left my hair longer at the back than the front if that wasn't specifically what I had asked for 😳

ivykaty44 · 02/09/2017 20:37

Well it hasn't ended up like you asked

What do you want to do op?

I'd visit another salon and not return to this first Hairdressers tbh as it doesn't look like she was really good at a restyle

Whereabouts are you and possible miners could recommend

usder · 02/09/2017 21:21

I didn't pay and off to see someone Monday just for a tidy up and to st least get it straight

Just going to have to leave it to grow out a bit as really don't want to go shorter

If someone is just having a trim then a dry cut is fine, however if you're having more than 1 inch off or a complete restyle it has to be washed first and cut wet!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 03/09/2017 07:58

A bob should be shorter underneath so the top layers lie flat and sleek - looks like she's done the oppositeConfused

Hope you get it sorted out ,post an updated pic if you can. I hate thinking of people with hair they hate!

Good luck.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 03/09/2017 07:59

My hairdresser often finishes off my cut after blow drying as it's easier to see how the hair lies but don't think she's do a bob dry.

MaisyPops · 03/09/2017 08:02

I'd have said a little trim on straight, easy tk mamage hair would be ok with a dry cut.

Equally, some styling and detail being done after the blow dry is ok.

A full restyle as a dry cut is something that sounds quite silly. I'd chalk it up tk exlerience and get ut fixed somewhere else but warn others about this.

OCSockOrphanage · 03/09/2017 17:58

No hairdresser has ever cut my hair dry. OK I am fussy, but I wouldn't sit in a chair for anyone who proposed the idea frankly.

MistyMinge · 03/09/2017 18:03

I don't think a restyle, especially a bob should be cut dry. You can't get the precision like you would on wet hair. I've had my hair cut into a bob recently, my hair was wet and then cut into a bit to tidy up when dry.

I'd be complaining to management and posting feedback on Facebook.
