Anyone use Lush Henna hair dye?

My hair is naturally black but I've started to get quite a few grey hairs coming through, plus it just needs a 'lift'. I've never used my hair before so would like to avoid boxed dye.

Has anyone used Lush Henna hair dye before? What did you think of it?

I use the caca rouge (red) and I love it. It covers my grey hairs and make my hair feel lovely. It is really difficult to apply and wash out though, but it is worth it.

EnidNextDoor · 01/09/2017 13:10

Claire what colour is your natural hair? Mine is light brown and I'm too nervous to make a big colour change.

OutrageousFlavourLikeFreesias · 01/09/2017 22:12

I'm naturally mid-brunette and regularly use Caca Rouge. Love love love it to bits - a proper long-lasting red that leaves my hair in lovely condition. It's not perfect mind you (you have to leave it in for four hours, and it's like washing fifty pounds of coffee grounds out of your hair afterwards) but I'd never go back to any other dye.

Can I just dye the ends a bit to see what happens? I suppose so really!

clairethewitch70 · 01/09/2017 22:26

Enid My natural hair is dark blonde with increasing grey. It covers well.

Ask in the shop for a free sample. They gave me a small block for patch testing, which was enough for dyeing the ends.

I liked the product and the finished effect, but it is messy and I can't face doing it any more (and get the bleach ready to clean up your bath or shower before it stains - maybe it wouldn't actually stain but it seemed like it would).

Can you apply henna over old hair dye? I know you can't put hair dye over henna?

45DegreestoReality · 02/09/2017 06:56

redrobinblue I've dyed over old permanent dye (really old faded) with Lush henna without problem. Something to do with it not containing metallic salts that some hennas do. I did a patch test first- then went for it the next day.

chanie44 · 02/09/2017 08:40

I stopped using the henna as it wasn't covering my grey. I only have a small amount of grey at my hairline and I used the henna for months and no matter how much henna I used, there results were patchy.

Work of warning, I eventually went to the hairdressers and they dyed over the henna, but the dye didn't take very well.

It didn't cover my greys well enough to be worth the hassle.

FrogsSpawnofSanta · 02/09/2017 08:59

My first time posting here Smile. I used to use it and loved the results, used a mix of rouge and brun. I stopped because I found it too time consuming. By the time I'd prepared it, applied, waited and removed it I was needing about 4 hours to dye my hair. I needed to give it about 2 hours to really take. My hair was very long and now I have cut it I might try it again and see if it is easier.

It is also so messy to do. I love it but just wish it was easier to do.

GerundTheBehemoth · 02/09/2017 08:59

I used it for years but eventually switched to powdered henna, which I find is better in every way.

ChocAuVin · 02/09/2017 09:07

Welcome FrogSpawnOfSanta

Fab name! Smile

dinosaursandtea · 02/09/2017 14:02

I've used it before and it's lovely.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 02/09/2017 15:06

crazy there's a huuuuge Lush Henna thread on S&B

I did use it, it is messy and time consuming though.

Do a strand test (you can section off a bit off hair , apply and wrap it in clingfilm then pin it up onto your head ......don't go out the house like this) or you can snip a section if you can hide the cut bit.

It will oxdise in 36-48 hours., so the colour changes and mellows.

Worst bit is cleaning up after. I used to get in the shower , wash it off with cheapie conditioner, shampoo, rinse then clean the shower/shower curtain.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 02/09/2017 15:14

crazy I bumped the Henna Thread.

My own head is on 28/03/16 @ 15.13

Before is a Superdrug box dye/home highlight (I look like Donald Trump Blush )

After is scalped and Henna Brune on the residual dye.
It didn't go green or fall out...................but I think you need to be cautious with any Indigo over dye.
