Thin hair

Hi Everyone,

I'm 19 and my hair has become thin towards the front of my head. Not bald but just far thinner than it used to be. I used to have lovely thick hair but around 16 it shedded quite a lot and has never come back lovely and thick. I'd say the average amount falls out daily.

Does anyone know of any products or vitamins to try and get it thicker.

Thanks :)

Actually I would suggest a trip to your GP. Especially if it is quite noticeable. You are very young and I would get a health check just to make sure everything was ok.

In regards to hair thickening products, I've tried loads of stuff and I find that things work for around a month then seem to lose their effectiveness. I had high lights for the first time earlier this year and they have made a substantial difference to my hair looking thicker. I am debating having them redone as I don't actually like them but I do like the thicker hair!

Hi,

On my last blood test it showed up that my B12 was pretty much non existant. Do you think this could be a contributing factor? Should i push the doctor to actually do something?

Thanks.

I'm sorry, I don't know much about B12 deficiency. Did you mention your hair to the GP at the time? I go back and ask more questions.

You should definitely go back to the doctor and ask for blood tests. Low thyroid and low iron may be causing your hair loss. Also ask for a print out of the results as they may say results are normal but when you check they are borderline. This happened to me and I'm now taking vitamin B12 and Spatone for iron plus Biotin which is good for hair growth.

Hi,

Thanks I've booked a doctors appointment. Hopefully they have a solution. I'm also often very tired throughout the day so it might solve this at the same time!

If your B12 is low it will effect your hair. B12 is used to make red blood cells that carry oxygen round the body not having enough of the vitamin can make you anemic and you will feel very tired. Definately get your doctor to do more tests. Iron, iron transferrin, ferritin, thyroid. Get a whole blood profile.

Definitely see what the doctor says first so they can sort you out and get you healthy again.

I have very fine hair which had started to thin even more at the back. My friend suggested I try Grow Me. Been using it for a while now and I have to say my hair is feeling thicker and my new short haircut has grown out (a little too quick) in no time. I've tried quite a few products over the years but this one seems to be helping. Hope you get sorted out soon.

I remember reading on mn that often doctors will say levels are normal, but they are actually at the very low end of normal - esp ferritin I think.
Get your blood tests done before you start taking any supplements/medicine, so you can see what your starting point is.

Thanks everyone feeling quite relieved that it could be a deficiency causing the problem and i'm not just going bald before 20 haha
