Best shampoo for greasy hair?

bananafish81 · 31/08/2017 11:53

I've got very thick but very greasy hair - previously I had full head bleach so my hair was much drier and only needed washing twice a week max

Now I'm dark again my scalp is much oilier

What's the best shampoo for greasy hair?

I've tried Aussie Mega and can't say I'm loving it

There's an Elvive which says it's for greasy roots and dry ends - any good?

All and any recommendations gratefully received!

I use the Body Shop Ginger Shampoo as I get an itchy scalp, but I'm prone to greasy hair and this is fine. Alberto Balsalm tea tree is meant to be good too, or Vosene.

I think generally you need a clear liquid version, rather than a creamy opaque shampoo.

I like Faith in Nature's seaweed and citrus shampoo.

I really like Lush I Love Juicy - it seems to get my hair cleaner than other shampoos, so I can leave it a bit longer before the next wash. It does make it a bit fluffy, but my hair is dead straight so any volume is appreciated.

I also love using a clarifying shampoo every couple of weeks.

Pantene have a new range, micellar cleansing for oily hair, I think it's fab, no silicone in it but it doesn't leave my ends dry and frizzy, reasonably priced too and smells lovely.

revelsandrose · 31/08/2017 12:43

I didn't like the elvive one.

I love my L'Oréal Elvive Phytoclear anti dandruff one. (Green bottle and found it in Tesco). Specifically for greasy hair.
It stripped out all the oily bits and a light, and a tiny bit of conditioner on the ends meant that my hair could last longer than one bloody day without being greasy.
I tried the pricier brands but honestly couldn't justify paying £10+ for special shampoos from the chemist. Total waste of money as it's the same results as the cheap L'Oréal.

Brilliant thanks!!

I was suspicious of the Elvive greasy hair one precisely because it's creamy, and intuitively that just feels like it would feel heavier than a clear liquid

Thanks for the recommendations - v much appreciated. Will have a look in Boots this evening -like the sound of the micellar cleansing one.

Just want something that's lightweight and cleansing, but not so harsh it'll strip the hair completely

When I had my bleached hair and used to dye it various colours, if I wanted to strip the colour but didn't have any stripping shampoo on hand, I'd use old school Vosene because it was essentially like a slightly gentler version of Fairy liquid

Thanks for the suggestions all!

I also have very greasy hair. What helped me is:

  • Washing my hair NOT every day, if possible;
  • Washing my hair with colder water;
  • Pharmaceris H Sebopurin normalizing shampoo - it's kind of miracle for me. Though I do not use it for a long time, but I like a start so far a lot!
ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 19/09/2017 15:58

I like Timotei Pure for normal/greasy hair.

MyfatheristheKing · 19/09/2017 16:04

I had a similar problem and would wash my hair in the morning and by the evening it was so greasy. I now co wash so only use conditioner (silicone and paraben free) and can get several days out of my hair now :)

ChocolatePHD · 19/09/2017 17:08

My hair is so greasy the morning after washing that it looks wet!

The only shampoo I've found to help is T Gel for greasy hair. It's cut the grease down a lot, I really recommend.

wobblywonderwoman · 19/09/2017 17:11

I have this problem.

T gel for greasy hair works really well

Also joico clarifying (spelling I am unsure of) but available on Amazon

On the cheaper side cien have a dark grey (men's) shampoo that I have found fantastic and just as good as above. Smells very fresh. Will try and send a link

wobblywonderwoman · 19/09/2017 17:11

Cien (lidl)

MrsPear · 19/09/2017 17:13

Don't use really hot water.

Wash every other day.

Conditioner only on the very ends.

I alternate between head and shoulders citrus and Alberto basso green apple.

Gillybobs · 19/09/2017 17:31

Head and shoulders, honestly.

imsorryiasked · 19/09/2017 18:14

I use the alberto balsam Apple one - still have to wash daily but I find my hair stays in good condition.
I've tried other shampoos with tea tree in the ingredients but these make my scalp sore with little spots.

froomeonthebroom · 19/09/2017 20:16

Tresemme 24 hour body. I do wash my hair every day though.

Nicketynac · 19/09/2017 21:17

I use the Elvive thickening shampoo after I read some comments on Sali Hughes column about it being too drying for some people! I have thick hair already so can't comment on that aspect but my hair is much less oily and easier to manage.

pasturesgreen · 19/09/2017 21:48

I swear by Sensai moisturising shampoo. It's expensive, but it's really made a difference with my hair (also thick and prone to getting greasy).

Runningpear · 19/09/2017 22:19

The elvive blue clay one was ok. I do still only use small amount of conditioner on the ends.
