How do I get my curly holiday hair back?

Normally I have short, fine (thin!), vaguely wavy hair. If I get rained on or it's humid then it goes curly/frizzy.

I just went on holiday to northern Scotland, and while there my hair went lovely and loosely-curly. I have tried to replicate it here in south England but it seems to have been a magical Scottish thing.

Does anyone know how I can get curls again without using lots of machines or equipment? I've looked at mousses by am very unsure. I've never bought anything for my hair except for shampoo!

Take a look at the curly girl method. There's a curly girl group on FB or one called curly crew (a bit less militant!).

Or you could just use some of the techniques - make sure your shampoo and conditioner don't contain silicones (superdrug extracts conditioners don't contain any). For styling, I'd use Umberto Giannini curl jelly - apply a good blob to soaking wet hair then scrunch out excess water and wrap your hair in a t-shirt, not a towel (plopping: www.naturallycurly.com/curlreading/curl-products/to-plop-or-not-to-plop/).

Take the t-shirt off after 10-30 mins and air dry or diffuse. If there's any crunchiness from the curl jelly, make sure your hair is totally dry and scrunch it out (www.hairromance.com/2016/11/sotc-scrunch-out-the-crunch-curly-hair.html)

Do you live in a hard water area?
You may just have to move to Scotland.

Thank you! I tried to Google, but everything I found was for people with always-curly hair, or involved curling irons.

I saw that gel in Boots yesterday (while staring in a panic at the shelves) so will give it a try!

Schwarzkopf mermaid look beach Matt texturising spray is amazing on my hair for lovely smooth curls.

Yeah, definitely in a hard water area. My parents have water softener, which never made it curly, but I guess that's different anyway.

I was very tempted to just move to Scotland. Looked in a lot of estate agents' windows!

It will be the soft water. A water softener won't work as well as proper soft water, doesn't soften enough. Move to a soft water area, Scotland or the northeast of England.

I don't know. I live in Scotland and in a soft water area for sure (as tested when I had to check for my new dishwasher). I've got that kind of hair as well but it's hit or miss how well my waves can be. Will be following thread for other tips though!
