Job interview tomorrow URGENT

callmehannahbaker · 30/08/2017 14:14

As stated, I have an interview tomorrow, (accountancy) I've been signed off sick over 2 years. In that time I've gone from a size 8 to a 14.

I have tomorrow morning to go buy something to wear. The only affordable places are Tesco and primark.

I'm a large bellied 14-no boobs.

I have not had my hair cut in a few years other than my shaved side cut which I'm growing out (guessing down will be best to cover side cut.)

Minimal make up?

Should I go for heels/flats/trouser/skirt/dress?

Pale skin, nearly black hair, thick legs, large abdomen, small chest.

I don't think think heels are essential, if you have nice flats. IMHO a nice pair of trousers/skirt and a blouse/shirt that fits will often look better than a suit from the cheaper end of the scale. For my last interview I wore black slim-leg trousers, a cream blouse with black piping from H&M, and black pointy leather flats. It was November so I wore a navy wool coat over the top with a big floral scarf, and took my plainest, smartest handbag.

I would look for nicely-fitting trousers and a smartish blouse. Do you have any smartish shoes already or do you need those too?

callmehannahbaker · 30/08/2017 14:58

I only have smartish low Mary Janes that fit. 6 stone weight gain in 18 months has made me not know what will suit me at all-will have roughly an hour and a half to find clothes with 3 children in tow.

I think that smart black trousers, blouse or top and flat shoes should be fine. For my teaching interview I wore a dress that I normally wear to school and a blazer.

Good luck Op. As long as you look smart and professional I think that you don't need to worry about your outfit.

GreenTulips · 30/08/2017 15:06

Try Matalan for trousers -- they have a range that are smart and have some stretch in the material about £15

Look for a blouse or smart top and try them on together

I got some smart tapered leg black trousers in Asda the other day that I will wear for work. they look great with a nice blouse or top and they were 2 for £10. Got navy pair as well. I'm short and fat (size 16 and only 5 foot 2) and they look smart and professional on me so will probably look great on you as you're not as hefty as I am!

Dorothy Perkins have 25% off at the moment I think (or they did yesterday online when I was shopping for similar reasons to you!)
What time is your interview?
I knew I wasn't going to get a chance to get to the shops, so I ordered loads online (will return most) and paid for next day delivery. I wasn't in such a rush as you though. You could try that, then If it doesn't arrive by a certain time head to the shops. Maybe scout online first so you already have a plan of which items you want to try on, to reduce the time spent browsing.
Good luck!

Anyone know if Tesco or primark have anything like I asked for?

Best to opt for trousers and a nice blouse I think.

DrumrollCheese · 30/08/2017 17:20

Tesco have got some really nice things in at the minute. The big Tesco in my city centre has a decent sized women's section. So if it's a big one I'd go there, they've brought the autumn winter stuff out and always have a bank of smart clothes.
Good luck with your interview :)

sourpatchkid · 30/08/2017 17:41

I love primark but it's not great for interview clothes. Their trousers and shirts tend to look quite cheap. I always find Tesco fits quite small but they tend to have a basic work range in (you'll be able go browse online for Tesco)

Honestly I asda is cheaper and better quality if you can get to one.

These trousers could work well- the cut is very flattering and as is slightly higher will give illusion of smaller waistline- especially if you wear with a scoop neck type black top similar to what they have styled with them on the model in the pictures. You could then wear either flats or heels- you could go bright for a bit of colour or neutral- whichever you prefer really!
