Necklines for the large of nork

NC4now · 27/08/2017 10:53

I'm seeing lots of skirts and culottes with polo neck jumpers around for Autumn. I love the look but as a booby size 14, I've always thought high necklines are out as they create a vast plane of bosom.
I think I saw that on Trinny and Susannah 20 years ago

Thoughts?

Would a long necklace to break it up work? Or is there another type of top that looks smart with short skirts and tights for autumn? I don't really want to go down the cardi route as it's a bit casual for work.

tentative, I find a scarf is a great way to fill those coat gaps, and it breaks up the neckline

I've gone back to blouses rather than shirts. Always with a camisole underneath, just in case.

MulhuddartDrive · 28/08/2017 19:00

Just found tuxedo shell tops in Next which look good - link

MulhuddartDrive · 28/08/2017 19:02

Also a zip shirt!

woodhill · 28/08/2017 19:18

Not keen on polyester but nice shirt

NC4now · 28/08/2017 19:56

I'm thinking along these lines for a coat. I think the buttons will help, and a scarf will sit nicely.

Nice coat but still think a lower neckline is better to avoid that shelf look!

DaveDave · 29/08/2017 00:38

Pepperberry clothes from Bravissimo are amazing for my big boobs! Their shirts don't gape and lovely flattering necklines abound.

MulhuddartDrive · 29/08/2017 08:21

Woodhull, I try to avoid polyester too but it's so bloody hard most of the time. Pepperberry's designs can be nice but I haven't looked in a while as it used to be all polyester and busy patterns which don't suit me.

The funnel neck coat would suit me better since the buttons break up the line. I think v-necks just seem to create an arrow drawing attention to my boobs. Funny how even though we all have big boobs, different styles suit us.

woodhill · 29/08/2017 08:50

I know. It's pants. I notice the M&S shirts were a cotton mix however

KatharinaRosalie · 29/08/2017 09:15

I've been disappointed in Pepperberry too many times. First, what's with all the jersey? Jersey stretches, i don't need special booby jersey. I need specially cut shirts and shift dresses for work. But half their shirts are see-through to start with, and the ones I bought have all shrunk in the wash so much they are no longer wearable.

And pretty much all their dresses have way too low necklines. Check their workwear section, I don't know where they think most women work, but it's certainly not appropriate to have that much cleavage on display in my office.

There is a style rule I followed religiously and that I have now discovered does not apply. That you cannot wear floaty tops if you have bigger boobs. Yes you can, if you wear something fitted on your lower half and simply tuck them in.
So for example, this look I would indeed avoid:

But this way is totally wearable:

Tentative I have a good tailor that I take things to and she tells me what I can and cant do. Most recently I took two dresses (both stretch crepe type fabric and lined, both expensive but synthetic) and had no issues. I had one prob in the past where the neckline was uneven (stretch silk dress) & had to have it redone. Had one cotton top done but it was expensive for what it was and I wouldnt bother with a top again unless I loved it

Appuskidu · 29/08/2017 10:12

I'm a FF and wear v and scoop necks but tend to wear a tight vest top underneath to avoid showing too much flesh.

tentative3 · 29/08/2017 12:08

Thanks for the coat advice. I United like the look of that lace Joe browns coat, might investigate further - on phone and couldn't actually see any lace, so hoping it's very subtle.

Inigo, what does the belting do? I tried one on at the weekend that was v neck, buttons and then a belt. It wasn't quite right, so I'm certainly in agreement with you but is it something it does to the shape?

Elledorado, you're not in the NW are you? There is a new alternations place opened not too far away so I might investigate them perhaps.

Elledorado · 29/08/2017 12:24

Not in the UK sorry Tentative!

Hairq · 29/08/2017 12:27

Pepperberry use too much thin clingy jersey - why would you want a top that fits your boobs perfectly then clings to every lump and bump around your waist and stomach and is so thin that it shows the outline of your jeans fly and button through it? You can tell that it's been airbrushed out on some of the models which is never a good start. Also too many cap sleeves (awful with large breasts) and too many cheap looking floral patterns.

Dailystuck71 · 29/08/2017 13:24

The pepperberry concept is great but they have no idea what women want in clothing. In winter we need sleeves on dresses. Not many larger breasted women can pull of a sleeveless dress, even in Summer. I certainly can't.

MrsT2007 · 29/08/2017 13:30

Agree.
Pepperberry is a good option for dresses for occasions but otherwise the patterns and cut look weird.

There's striped tops where the stripes gather round the side of the boobs. You may as well stick a sign on your chest saying 'massive Norks'.

I need to go and look at the m&s shirts. I was thinking of a pepperberry one but that looks interesting as I don't want stretchy I want a lovely simple, well cut white cotton one. You know, a 'wardrobe staple' type white shirt?

I love a slash/boat neck or very shallow scoop at a push. Cardis etc v necks mostly.

If I ever win the lottery I'm getting a boob reduction

InigoTaran · 29/08/2017 13:30

I don't wear coats with belts as I think they cut you in half and make your boobs look big and bulky. I prefer long, flowing lines and definitely with a fitted waist. Personally I think if you have big boobs you need to ignore high fashion, it's simply made for a different body shape, and go for being stylish instead. Coats are important as you wear them a lot so they need to be right!

I only know if this as I had my colours/style done years ago, was really helpful and I don't deviate from it as I know what does and doesn't work for me now!

crazymissdaisy · 29/08/2017 13:59

Agree about pepper berry being less good than one would have hoped. My current strategy ( not necessarily advisable) is to treat my breasts as a beautiful part of my natural body, not a sexualized man trap. It seems unfair that a normal neckline can be judged fine on one.woman but unprofessional on another. It's treating women as sex objects and men as uncontrolled apes in trousers. No one would say women with gorgeous legs shouldn't wear skirts in case a man was inflamed with lust - so I wear h and m silky v neck t shirts or structured Joe Brown's dresses with a sweetheart neckline and an excellent bra, but when meeting a client/ senior management I bung on a neat cardigan e.g. boden cropped or a structured jacket. Oh dear I am a principled coward!
