Hair straighteners, what do you recommend?

Hello, my GHD's have said goodbye.

My hair is naturally curly ( if I leave it to dry) but on days when I want straight hair I need good straighteners.
So I am looking for some that work just as good as GHD's without the BIG price tag.

So mumsnetters what would you recommend?

I have the same hair type as you and would say the GHD IV. I got the new ones they are not nearly as good on my unruly mop. Platinum I think they are called.

They are cheaper than the new style. Have tried many other brands but never with success. Even if they initially looked good the style sisnt last.

Everyone says Cloud Nines are even better than GHDs, but I've had my GHDs mended 3 times by sending them off (google GHDs repairs) - for about £25 they come back good as new in 48 hours.

fizzytonicplease · 27/08/2017 08:49

Thankyou for the replies, so looks like it's GHD's. Mine are way beyond repair now and i have had them years.
I'am just trying to justify spending money on them, I Will try and persuade DH to buy me some for our anniversary, me looking like a scarecrow for a few weeks should do it Grin

Cloud 9's or I have heard Glam Palm are good.

BeeFarseer · 27/08/2017 08:58

L'Oreal steam pod. It blows GHDs out of the water. They are expensive, but I would save and save and save for another pair if mine went. My hair doesn't frizz up as easily if it's raining when I use them.

NC4now · 27/08/2017 09:02

I've got Cloud 9s. They are the best, I think. I have thick, wavy hair, but they go right through it quickly.
My first GHDs that I got in 2001 were brill but my second pair not so good. They changed manufacturers, I believe.
With Cloud 9s you can adjust the heat.

hellsbells99 · 27/08/2017 09:02

Cloud nines! Mine are brilliant.
The newer GHDs are no where near as good as the older GHDs. My sister bought a new pair in October and they stopped working in less than a month (they were replaced).

NC4now · 27/08/2017 09:03

My hairdressers had a trade in on Cloud 9s, so I got £30 towards them by swapping my old GHDs.

ReinettePompadour · 27/08/2017 09:03

I bought a pair of emergency straighteners on holiday that are Remingtons. Cheapish from Argos.

Id had GHDs but they repeatedly needed fixing/servicing etc and they stopped working on the 1st day of the holiday. The Remingtons have lasted for years and theyre as good as my old GHDs for the finish. They only cost £25 when I bought them. Theyre the best straighteners I've ever owned and I've had a few over the years.

Don't discount the cheaper brands sometimes a company gets its name and then wings it for years off the back of that 1 good product. I think GHD have done that really.

AldiAisleOfCrap · 27/08/2017 09:05

Cloud nine Ghd made it China now and they are rubbish.

fizzytonicplease · 27/08/2017 09:08

Oh Thankyou im having a good look now. I also wasn't aware that GHD had changed manufacturer.

Another vote for Cloud 9...they are amazing!

Orangebird69 · 27/08/2017 09:11

Haito Ceramic Tourmaline straighteners. Far far superior to ghds. Higher top temperature, also adjustable temperature and just about half the price. I have thick, curly, frizzy, long hair. They work far better than poxy ghds ever did.

FoofFighter · 27/08/2017 09:12

BabyLiss 230

I used t have ghd but when the broke I couldn't afford to replace and bought these as a temporary measure, still using their brand years on, much better than current ghd having tried a friends gold ones recently.

GinPleaseOrTen · 27/08/2017 09:12

I have Corioliss straighteners and find them far better than GHDs. They keep my hair straight all day, which is something my GHDs didn't do. You can control the temperature of them as well. Would never buy a different make now.

NC4now · 27/08/2017 09:13

Yes, according to my hairdresser, Cloud 9 are made by the people that used to make GHDs back in the day.

Xmasfairy86 · 27/08/2017 09:16

I have a cheaper than ghd pair of Remington (I think) they're wet to straight (I never use them on wet hair!!!) but easily tame my mop.

Cakescakescakes · 27/08/2017 09:18

Ghds are rubbish these days unless you already have pretty straight hair. Look for ones that heat up to 230 degrees - this allows you to control the heat as your hair needs. Ghds only go to about 190 now which isnt hot enough to keep my thick frizzy hair straight.
I have had cheaper Remington and babyliss ones and both have been better than ghds for me.

WooWooWitchetyWoo · 27/08/2017 12:45

Just got cloud 9s recently and hate them. They're absolutely pathetic and hair frizzed very quickly - they also seem to make my hair look very thin and give it that wispy end look. I really do despise them.

Strongbeatsskinny · 27/08/2017 13:02

Cloud 9 unbeatable

fizzytonicplease · 27/08/2017 18:06

I have just ordered the Remington ones and if I don't like them I'm going to save to get some cloud 9. Thankyou for your suggestions
