Maintaining ash blonde hair

Hi all.

I recently had balayage done at a very swanky hairdresser and came home with the most beautiful ash blonde hair. Which lasted probably about a week. My hair is now just a normal blonde colour.

I've tried Charles Worthington violet shampoo, John Frieda's tone correcting shampoo, touch of silver left in for as long as I dared, nothing gives me anywhere near that same ash almost grey tone.

Any recommendations?

Fudge shampoo and conditioner. None of the supermarket ones do anything for mine.

SnowBodyforrrrm · 26/08/2017 11:48

I haven't tried it, however people on some of my Facebook beauty pages rave about fanola no more yellow...you can find it on amazon. I've been meaning to order it for ages, intact I will order some now!

I use Bleach Silver Shampoo, you get it in Boots. If I use it more than twice a week or leave it on for longer than 5 mins at a time my hair def develops a violet tint.

Schwarzkopf toner mousse is amazing!

Don't know if it's still available though. I often find it in random pound shops and stock up!

Osmo super silver shampoo available from salon supply stores is amazing. It's about £13 a bottle but lasts ages as you don't need much. None of the supermarket ones touch this stuff.

Indola colour mousse in silver.
Available from Sally beauty

I wash my hair once a week with the L'Oréal Serie Expert silver shampoo.
I also go to my hairdresser to have it toned in between having the colour touched up, I usually have my highlights done every 8 weeks, so have it toned then, and will go and have it toned and blow dried every 4 weeks.

Thank you so much for your replies! Will do a wee bit of research into all the suggestions. Slightly have The Fear that I'm going to end up looking like my Nan if I leave something on too long Blush but a bank holiday weekend is as good a time as any I suppose!

Did the hairdresser tone it that colour or dye it?

I ask because my hairdresser just toned my blonde an ash the last time and it only lasted a week before washing out, just been back and got her to dye it a darker blonde/ash colour so see if it lasts

Cerseilannisterinthesnow · 28/08/2017 18:53

Oh but product wise I like both the L'Oréal series expert and the fanolla I would say the fanolla was more pigmented and better result though, on my light blonde hair it was anyway

RupertPsmith · 28/08/2017 19:24

L'Oreal Serie Expert silver shampoo. Whack it on, put on a shower cap, and leave for twenty mins or so before rinsing.

Lee Stafford hot shots are brilliant on ash blonde. You get 4 sachets in the box, I buy them when on offer in boots and use about twice a week.

I go purpley at the drop of a hat with the purple shampoos. Have to wash them in and out again within about 3 minutes. (long ash blonde hair).

Every 2 months or so i use Wella 20% developer mixed 2 parts to one with a 50/50 mixture of 2 wella colour charms: no.s t18 and t11. I know it sounds complicated but it isn't - i get it all on amazon and the mixture only has to be on for 15 mins to give the most perfect ash.
