Hair help - pictures of mop

So I need help, maybe more reassurance. I have been growing my thick wavy hair for 7 years and its only just passed my shoulders.
It takes ages to wash, ages to dry and I end up leaving it. Id say for the last 6 months I'll wash, put in a plait and then not touch it for 4 days until the next wash...I've had enough, it looks awful, I look awful so I am booked in at 1pm today to have it all chopped off into a short bob....
But im worried, I have a big forehead, a large scar on the side of my nose and quite a big nose as well as thick wavy hair. Will my face shape suit chin length hair? Should I avoid a fringe? I am awful at making appointments and leave it until my hair is a mess...I need to change and improve :(

I think you have lovely hair, trust me I'd kill for your hair right now!! You have a great face shape so lucky you, I think you would suit any style hair.

If I was you, and I know you're after a real change but I wouldn't chop all your hair off. Mine use to be your length some years ago but I foolishly over-coloured it & decided to chop it & im beginning to regret it. But that's just me.

If you're still determined to go for the chop, perhaps go for a 'lob' - a long bob, at least that way it's not much taken off & if you still feel like you want it shorter you can go back at a later date. Whatever you decide, good luck & enjoy!

Dearlittleflo · 24/08/2017 11:48

My one concern about a chin length bob with thick wavy hair is that you run the risk of mushroom-head 'unless you spend a lot of time styling.

Would you consider a bit longer (eg collar bone) with some long layers to make it easier to manage?

AmIAWeed · 24/08/2017 11:56

Thank you - I am feeling really down about my appearance, I had a lump removed from my nose just before Christmas, couldn't wear make up for ages after due to the scar and I feel so frumpy and plain - I haven't got back in the habit of doing makeup, I work from home, rarely see anyone other than close friends and feel I need a kick up the backside, which is why I went sod it and booked an appointment. This was after sobbing last night because I couldn't get the hairbrush through my hair...
I appear to have lost all confidence

DearLittleFlo I was picturing an undercut with the underside shaved making it thinner, I do agree though the ONLY good thing about my hair length is it pulls the top bit down

Dearlittleflo · 24/08/2017 12:21

Sorry that you're feeling down. I think your hair looks lovely- didn't mean to imply there was anything wrong with thick hair, in fact it's a great thing to have.

In terms of confidence, I think booking the appointment is a great idea. Would you consider doing something similar re hair/make up to help you feel less stuck in a rut? I've worked from home in the past and agree it can make you end up feeling quite grungey.

AmIAWeed · 24/08/2017 12:26

I do think make up should be next on my list. I used to have eyelash extensions and loved how I could add some blusher, lip balm and be done.
Perhaps once the hair is a bit more manageable I can focus on beauty side next. My husband keeps telling me im fine, but perhaps I need a total stranger to say 'well actually, this could make you look nicer'
Ill talk to the hairdresser and maybe not have it all off.

You know what, you have lovely hair. It does you no favours being tied back.
If I was you I'd concentrate on finding the right products to get a bit more definition in your waves. I would also practice with half up hair styles too.
Why do you wear it up so much?

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 24/08/2017 12:32

Fab hair! I would have a side parting though.

I have similar hair and if you chop it you'll end up like Crystal TipsShockGrin

You could have some weight taken out of the bottom?

IdentifiesAsASloth · 24/08/2017 12:33

Yy side parting. Windswept/surfer look.

I have thick hair too. Looks awful in a bob unless I spend ages styling it and spend a fortune on serum v

gingerbreadmam · 24/08/2017 12:34

Your hair is gorgeous. i wouldnt go for a bob but how about just below the shoulders and point cut so it comes longer at the front?

if you get lots of long layers in the hairdresser should be able to thin lots of it out as well.

At least with a bit of length you can still tie up if you need to.

a long fringe would help with what you're self conscious about i would have it so you can brush it to the side.

would love an update post hairdressers.

NoFucksImAQueen · 24/08/2017 12:35

Your hair is fab. I would start the curly girl routine and try to get your waves into more of a curl rather than chop it off. There's several Facebook groups that tell you the "rules" but basically it not using any silicones and putting lots of moisture back into it he hair

Zippyzulu · 24/08/2017 12:36

I agree your hair is lovely. I would have a Brazilians blow dry (you can buy kits on Amazon and get a friend to help to save money!) and you would keep the natural waves but lose any frizz and knots. It would last 3-4 months and you could just wash and leave it to dry naturally.

gingerbreadmam · 24/08/2017 12:36

kind of like this but a couple of inches longer.

Ginger pretty sure that wouldn't suit the OP's hair, it would be a disaster on mine which is similar.

gingerbreadmam · 24/08/2017 12:57

yes would probably take a lot of styling time im just thinking about saving time drying it.

my dm has very similar hair but probably not as thick.

AmIAWeed · 24/08/2017 15:06

so I maybe should have posted this ages before the hairdressers and not an hour before....ive just read half your messages and thinking wow, Ive made a mistake....but well, now I've done it....it might still be a mistake. She kept it longer at the back as she was worried about the waves it would just stick out and be harder to style. It does feel great to run my hands through and the true test will be when I wash and dry myself
It was a bit puff ball when she'd finished and she did offer to straighten but she was running late and I said I was happy to straighten once home...this is me now home and run a straightener through the front.
All bleach has been cut out and it's my natural hair colour as opposed to the half bleach half natural it was before!
You are all really lovely, so dont hate me for ignoring you, I promise I was already driving when most of you posted :/

Omg that's a big chop! Shock

The true test will be when you do it yourself!

gingerbreadmam · 24/08/2017 15:30

looks lovely sure it will be much easier to keep on top of.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 24/08/2017 15:30

What's the back like?

IdentifiesAsASloth · 24/08/2017 15:32

Oh wow!
You do suit it so don't worry about that. It will just be if you can keep up the styling.

Either way, hair grows so it won't take long to grow out if you get bored again.

AmIAWeed · 24/08/2017 16:04

I tried taking a picture of the back Dame and only got photos of my thumb...will ask the husband when he's home to take a pic. It's short but graduated if that makes any sense at all?!
I am a little wary of the upkeep but my hair before took 30 minutes to wash, if I was blow drying over an hour (then id have to shower again as I was so hot and sweaty) then another hour to straighten so there is no way this can be as bad, but of course I can't just stick this in a ponytail and walk away - maybe that's the whole point?!
I did buy a new nail varnish and paint my nails this afternoon...just in time to stomp around a muddy field dog training

OP posts:
DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 24/08/2017 16:06

I think even if it does go a bit wild it'll look great especially that length. Yes I know what you mean about the back.

Dearlittleflo · 24/08/2017 17:37

Love it.

EraArils · 24/08/2017 19:02

I think it looks much better now. Like pp said, even when its messy it'll still look good. Love it.

youvegottobekidding · 24/08/2017 20:30

It looks great! Enjoy your new style!
