What can I do with my hair colour wise?

My hair is just blergh colour wise. It's my own fault, because I've ended up with it like this - after whacking on a plum colour, it turned out a very misfortuneate black purplely colour, so I had to do a vitamin c hair colour removal thing. Which has left it pretty much how it looks now.

It's pretty much non-describable, although if you were to try & describe it, I guess the nearest you could get is 'lacklustre, dull brownish something'

What I would like is a more rich, colour, but not dark. I find I'm lusting after my copper days, like a nice auburn-brown. I'm a bit scared of trying a permanent box colour auburn, afraid it'll turn out black or purple. I can't go to the hairdressers, haven't got the cash. There's no way i can go down the bleach route, absolutely no way, hair is not in geat condition.

Is there a way I can achieve a nicer colour than I have/want using a semi? If so what brand & shade should I go for?

Squashit - googled that one & colour is lovely, however I don't know if it'll turn my hair too dark? There's the Amber one, but I don't know if that'll make any difference, maybe on the lighter parts of my hair.

I didn't really want to go for a permanent colour but I'm now thinking I might have to to get some colour result, I just don't want it turning the darker part (which is nearer the roots) darker. I'm wondering if I get a bright gingery colour like this it'll pack enough a punch to make a result? I don't mind having coppery colour on the lighter parts I just don't want to end up with dark red on the darker part. A pic to show the colour I'd like to achieve & the permanent dye I think might do it? Bearing in mind my hair colour is a mix of colours at the moment, not all entirely natural!

I think the Amber one will be a bit light. Often the pics on the boxes don't bear any resemblance to the colour. One way around this's is to google Majirel colours, find the shade you want and then translate that across to a semi permanent shade.

Level 5 is medium brown then the numbers after that let you know the tone. So 5.1 is medium ash brown, 5.3 is golden brown and 5.5 is heading into mahogany/auburn.

Sometimes there is a third number such as 5.35 and that will be a medium golden brown with a redder cast to it.

Level 6 is light brown and level 7 is dark blonde. The higher the first number the lighter the shade.

With the second number the higher you go the redder it gets.

Looking at that shade you posted you are looking at a 6.4 ish level.

Try Castings 645 Amber or if you want a permanent one Color Mask 657 light copper brown is good.

So this morning, I found a bottle of Superdrug's colour effect in Light strawberry blonde, a colour shampoo & in desperation, i used that, left it on for an hour! I used it on dry hair as well!

It's not done a great deal, as you can imagine, but its definitely left a reddish tinge to my hair. But my hair is still 'wishy washy' looking! Although the shine, I have to say is incredible!

Anyway I've been out this evening & after much googling I got nice n easy nature warm auburn. I figured & hope it's going to give me a uniform colour of a mid auburn browny colour!

Can I do it tonight or should I just wash my hair tonight & do it tomorrow? I don't want to end up with dark red or Ronald McDonald hair!
