Hair 'updo' too much for a wedding guest?

So that I can combat the frizz and greasy roots look that I get after a very long event, I've been thinking of getting my hair put up for a wedding I'm going to in a couple of weeks time. DH says absolutely not - I'll look like a bridesmaid! The wedding is a fairly traditional one and starts at 11 am with lunch wtc and then band in the evening.

Is it not the 'right' thing to do for a wedding? I was thinking of asking my hairdresser for a sort of low informal bun type style. What do you think and any pics to show the hairdresser would be great.

Of course you can have your hair up for a wedding.
What an odd comment from your dh.

MFR3 · 20/08/2017 23:12

Ignore your OH. Go for it. You will not look like a bridesmaid, every wedding I've been to there has been guests with up-styles.

You feel and look great and won't have to worry about your hair for the day.

Wear your hair up.
Your husband doesn't know what he's on about.

Notmybag · 20/08/2017 23:16

Phew, I'm glad to hear he doesn't know what he is talking about! Perhaps he is trying to out me off spending the money Grin

Any. Thoughts on styles?

I always get my hair put up for a wedding. I think it's a very normal thing to do? £15 in my local salon and it's nice for a change as I'm not great at doing my hair myself.

Cakescakescakes · 20/08/2017 23:18

Low informal bun sounds lovely.

OuchLegoHurts · 20/08/2017 23:21

I loves a messy up style with a nice high quiff/ beehive style...nothing too stiff

wellymelly · 20/08/2017 23:23

I think you should book it, but wind your she up by showing him photo of a woman wearing a tiara, saying that's the kind of look you are aiming for!!!

wellymelly · 20/08/2017 23:24

Dh not she 😂

Belindaboom · 20/08/2017 23:26

Pinterest is your friend. How long is your hair?

JakeBallardswife · 20/08/2017 23:30

Sounds a great idea, unless you were planning on following the bride down the aisle there'll be nothing bridesmaid about you! As someone else said you could start mentioning tiaras etc to DHGrin

Notmybag · 21/08/2017 07:42

Hair is medium/long so definitely below shoulders but just above shoulder blades. Blond and highlighted. I'll head over to Pinterest. Thanks.

Hair up definitely appropriate for a wedding. Look on Pinterest for ideas and take a picture to your hairdresser so they can try to replicate it. Have a lovely wedding!

Polkadot1974 · 21/08/2017 08:44

I would if I had long hair for sure. It's not easy to achieve when I've tried it so would definitely get it done in the salon. I would love textured hair in a low bun - sounds great idea

HappyEverIftar · 21/08/2017 12:04

I always get my hair put up for weddings! Loads of ideas on google. Go for it.

fauxhito · 21/08/2017 12:24

For the last wedding I went to I had my hair straightened and then combed into a low ponytail with a bit of volume at the roots a la Blake Lively. I think your dh is thinking of the stiff curl business that some go for.

Is your DH thinking you'll do something like this?

cheeseandpineapple · 21/08/2017 12:28

Grin @trills photo!

Trills · 21/08/2017 12:32

The trouble with a low bun / low ponytail is that if our hair does not hold backcombing well, after half an hour it'll just look like an everyday "I needed to get my hair out of my face" bun/ponytail, and you'll feel that you've wasted your money.

Dina1234 · 21/08/2017 12:43

Where I come from that's pretty standard wedding prep.

fauxhito · 21/08/2017 12:44

true trills. my hair is thick and frizzy so it loves a good backcomb Grin You could run a french braid into the bun to make it look a bit more done?

I love the photos above! As long as you don't plan to put flowers/tiaras in it you're grand.

Notmybag · 21/08/2017 14:52

Trills - yes! I think he is!
