Grey hair doesn't suit but don't want to recolour

Have been growing out my colour for a year now. Pretty much all the old colour (henna) will go on my next cut.

I am about 30-40% grey with the rest a mousy mid brown. There are a couple of white streaks but mostly it's salt and pepper.

It doesn't really suit me. I am warm toned and the grey seems to make me look tired and washed out with no sparkle.

Any ideas? Highlights to put some warmth through? Can't really afford regular upkeep though and have very quick growing hair.

I really don't want an overall colour again....

I've been growing in the grey during the last year & have had a few light highlights added to my mid brown hair and I really like them. I've only had highlights added once in 8 months & will have them done again very soon. My thinking was that I'd have highlights added twice a year & am very pleased it's working out that way.

Try a orange toned red lipstick instead to lift your look.

I have a mix of colours through my grey hair, only needs doing 3x a year as it all blends in nicely.

No idea about the technical terms, but some of my warm skin tones clients (I do colour analysis, so lots of discussion of going grey and colouring hair) have had warm toned highlights put in underneath their hairline (so root growth isn't easily visible) and it's worked really well to warm things up. Still needs doing a few times a year, but not every 6-8 weeks.

Ohhh thanks everyone - I can manage a few times a year no problem, it was just every 6-8 weeks that would be too much.

I looked again last night and it just needs something so it's good to know just a few highlights could work.

Make sure you stress you don't want lots of upkeep and want it to grow out naturally. I have a lighter colour and what would be my natural colour put through and it all blends nicely and grows out without any obvious roots.
