Botox lasts about 5 weeks!

Anyone else find their Botox only last a few weeks? I've only had it done twice since April yet find it wears off after 5 weeks.

Is this normal? I was told it should last about 3/4 months.

Gosh that is fast - was it definitely Botox brand used as Dysport brand can wear off more quickly. Which areas do you have treated and how many units do you have? I would go back to the doctor/nurse and ask for a top up.

CandysKisses · 17/08/2017 18:03

I'm not actually sure how much was used or what it was other than Botox! I have my crows feet done.

I'm thinking of going elsewhere for a second opinion

Go back, ask them to administer more. It takes a practitioner a few sessions to determine the amount you will need. It varies with each person. They start of with a small dose as they don't not want a droopy outcome!

It took three sessions to determine my dose. I had to have top ups three times (two weeks apart) on the first session.

A good Botox lasts minimum of 4 months, but if done regularly it lasts 5 months.

Definitely go back in. They should top up for free as you didn't get the correct dose to start with.

muggymum · 17/08/2017 18:29

You shouldn't be having it done so soon. A minimum of 12 weeks in between treatments. Try somewhere else, if the same happens you know maybe you are slightly resistant. Where are you in the country? I'm in the industry and would be able to find someone reputable x

Aridane · 17/08/2017 18:45

Go back for a follow up consultation

CandysKisses · 17/08/2017 19:04

I'm inbetween Derbyshire & nottingham. I don't mind traveling for the right person within reason.

I've been back to the same person twice now but the 2nd time wasn't any better so think I'd rather try somewhere else just to see if someone else can make a difference

Mine usually starts wearing off after about 10 weeks, always around the eyes first :( forehead usually lasts about 4 month

Ellasshitholekitchenpjpiigp · 17/08/2017 20:21

You need Dr Sue in Nottingham, she is amazing

XiCi · 17/08/2017 20:34

I'm not sure if it will make much difference seeing a new practitioner. I'm lucky that even very small amounts last 6 months but my Dr told me that some people need large amounts much more frequently. It differs from person to person. 5 weeks is an incredibly short time though. Did you discuss this with your practitioner when you went back? Were you seen after 2 weeks to see if you needed a top up?

Wellhellothere1 · 17/08/2017 21:48

I was about to start a thread about exactly the same thing! I've had botox maybe about 10 times over the last ten years and the last few times it has only lasted around 4 weeks. I always go back for top ups 2 weeks after my initial injections. The nurse I usually go to was really surprised and saw me lots afterwards to check on the botox. After about 12 weeks she used a different brand (for free) and got me back for a top up again but exactly the same thing happened! The last time I got botox I went to a very well recommended GP, went back for a top up but again it only lasted a few weeks.
I don't think I'll waste my money again. I'm not sure if it's me-my forehead has very expressive lines and strong muscles if you know what I mean but at rest I have no wrinkles at all. Strange!
Would love it to last longer as I feel I look so much more rested with it.

Aridane · 17/08/2017 22:05

Mine last about six months - and am encouraged to go back if not satisfied

Ktown · 17/08/2017 22:10

Isn't it because you develop an antibody- immune response to the toxin, over time, so your body get some rid of it?
Read this somewhere.

LHReturns · 17/08/2017 22:21

Around eyes lasts the shortest time. Definitely go back after two weeks for free top up. That is always included. Muscles weaken over time due to Botox, so if you continue the effects of each treatment should last for longer soon.

Ellasshitholekitchenpjpiigp

I've found Dr Sue but there are no prices on her website?

Newtssuitcase · 17/08/2017 23:21

I would highly recommend Petra Medley - Serious Skin in Nottingham. Excellent and very good prices.

Ellasshitholekitchenpjpiigp · 18/08/2017 08:57

Dr Sue charges £200 for a full 1ml syringe but this can be spread over areas. She uses high end product which does make her more expensive.

I know I sound like a sales rep, I'm really not just an extremely happy customer.

Actually I saw her on Tuesday and I got dermal fillers aswell in my chin because I had a very receding chin caused by an accident.

I am completely overwhelmed at how amazing it looks and feels...... sorry to hijack your thread but I've not told anyone in RLWink

thenightsky · 18/08/2017 11:36

ooh so tempted. And Nottingham is but a 90 min drive max.

FruitCider · 20/08/2017 08:11

I have a part time aesthetics practice, and can explain why "botox" lasts longer in some people than others:

  1. strength and size of your muscles
  2. dose of toxins
  3. locations of injections

The Botox brand tends to last a little longer than dysport and azzalure, however if your practitioner is only injecting 3 units into the crows feet whereas in reality you need 5, it's not going to work properly regardless. Some people have resistance to different brands too, I usually start with azzalure due to quick onset but if that fails switch to botox.

If your current practitioner is not topping you up for free despite poor results I would say it's time to find someone else! Wink sadly I have no colleagues I can refer you to in nottingham/derby but I wish you all the best.

Puggsville · 20/08/2017 23:27

Is Dr Sue diplomatic? She wouldn't take one look at my face and say I'm beyond help.

Would she????

poynter9 · 06/02/2019 22:17

Had Botox for years but changed practitioner but after 3 attempts then a 3 month gap I just can't get any freeze at all ?

8limbsyoga · 01/06/2021 23:51

I have a resistance to botox that was noticed while having botox migraine treatments. The effects would start to wear off between week 7-8. A couple years later I recently tried cosmetic injections and the effects started to wear off week 4 and at week 5 I have regained all of my muscle movement. They use significantly less for cosmetic injections, but at this rate it is absolutely not worth the cost.
Reading the literature, resistance can occur if you have ever been exposed to botulism food poisoning and I almost died as an infant from botulism (likely from airborne spores).
If you are having these kind of results, you might have antibodies to botox. They might develop after repeated exposure to cosmetic injections as well, so don't rule it out even if you have never had botulism from food poisoning.

HomeSliceKnowsBest · 02/06/2021 06:40

If you exercise hard and frequently this helps metabolise Botox, thus it lasts for a shorter time.

MrsMaizel · 02/06/2021 09:40

The more you get Botox the longer it will last each time . However so much of it depends on the skill of the practitioner . You do realise that people can do a short afternoon course on this ? I use a dermatologist consultant and he is no more expensive than others . I usually get 6 months out of Botox and a year to 18 months out of fillers .
