In dire need of help - completely clueless !

Going on a hen night end of May - going to dogs, dinner and then onto a club and am totally crap at deciding what to wear.

Was thinking shorts (not necessarily these ones), tights and round toe shoes (they are cream, from faith, only option really as cannot afford new shoes too) but and struggling like mad with a top.

Do i just go with a casual top of maybe a smock type ?
Or any other idea's - was looking for a dress but cannot really find anything I like.

If your shoes are cream you either have to make a bold statement with the tights or leave them off. Dark elgs + cream shoes not a good look.
I'd go for browns not navy in the shorts/tights and then try a loose weave patterned tight.
Top depends very much on your shape, belly - avoid smocks!
Smocks only work well if you balance the bottom half anyway, I'd go for slimleg trousers with a smock as I think shorts+ smock would make anyone, even Kate Moss look short and dumpy!

hmmm, clubbing after dinner - awkard combination. How about a slinky mindress / smock type dress over trousers. Then after dinner whip the trousers off and exchange for lovely sheer legs.

I have a bias-cut cream silk slipdress I wear over jeans with lovely roundtoe cream high heels that have long ribbon ties. Under the jeans you just see the toes of the shoes, but when I take jeans off you get the full effect of them with the dress.

you're way out of my area of expertise I'm afraid - someone younger and funkier who didn't shriek at the sight of those shorts may be along in a minute...

mousiemousie · 30/03/2007 10:12

You could go in funky school girl stuff if its a hen night, the shorts would work well for that!

ScottishThistle · 30/03/2007 10:12

I take it you have fabulous legs???

FoghornLeghorn · 30/03/2007 10:14

Legs aren't fabulous Scottish Thistle no but they aren't bad either.

I guess posting was a bad idea - i'll just figure it out myself - thanks anyway

Sorry you seem to have taken offence, I was only asking a question!

Shorts look best with blouses imo, smock tops don't work & I'd go for loose weave patterned tights so they don't look too bold with your cream shoes, hth.

Have to say, I like the shorts too, but am not sure what you'd wear with them - would something like this work? Maybe not, because of the waist tie.

ScottishThistle · 30/03/2007 10:36

I don't think the waist tie's that important, those shorts aren't the ones the OP is going to buy for sure.

I do suggest not buying shorts with a tie detail as I've had similar with trousers with tie detail & they're a nightmare to find tops to go with them.

There are some really gorgeous blouses around at the moment in all of the shops.

FoghornLeghorn · 30/03/2007 12:39

Sorry ST, I did take offence and I shouldn't have. Feeling a bit touchy today and just took your comment the wrong way so I apologise.
Think it was also because I'm not 100% about the shorts myself, I cannot find a thing I like atm and I don't even want to go on the bloody hen night anyway but hey ho.

Right - have been through wardrobe and have found a cool black firetrap dress, worn once to Xmas party 2 years ago - Tis quite short at back but has a wrap over effect at bottom of dress which means it's slightly longer at the front - sounds awful but it's not.
Question now is, as the hen is end of may I was going to go bare legged do I go to for black shoes or a colour to brighten it up a bit ?
Also, while I'm here - I have a gorgeous dress I brought for my brothers wedding last Feb, again worn once - it's cream with touches of bronze, gold and silver in it - have just tried it on and I can get in it - would need a bit of work at the gym for it to look greatbut I've got 3 months for that. Would the couple (DH's brother) be offended that I hadn't brought a new outfit ? I will be buying new shoes/jewellry etc but don't really see the point forking out for a new dress when I've got one I absolute love in the wardrobe and i've worn it once

black dress sounds fab - get sheer tights if any, you'll soon be so drunk you won't notice if it's cold .
Wear the cream shoes - maybe get some cream beads or a bracelet or something to tie them in?

Dress for wedding sounds fab, the couple getting married won't notice what you're wearing anyway. And couldn't you wear the cream shoes with that too - save a bit of cash!

FoghornLeghorn · 30/03/2007 13:52

yeah I could Mrs B and i do lurve the shoes but considering I had saved £500 for wedding outfit shopping (top to toe), I thought I could at least treat myself to some new shoes.
I've seen some lovely bronze colour sandals which I think would go nice with the dress.

OP posts:
MrsBadger · 30/03/2007 14:06

oh absolutely in that case, didn't realise you had budget put aside - v organised!
Have to say if it was me I'd get a new dress and wear old shoes though...

FoghornLeghorn · 30/03/2007 14:18

I would usually agree but we are buying a new house, going on holiday and setting up our own business so it just seems a waste spending all of the money when there's so many other things it could go towards.

Apology accepted!

FoghornLeghorn · 30/03/2007 17:31

Thanks ST
