Help me find a foundation please!

I'm 22. Quite pale. Very very dark circles under my eyes that have always been there. Quite blotchy skin but no spots (usually). Sometimes quite dry but can be oily. Generally crap nightmare skin.

I used to wear quite thick foundation previously when my skin was bad. It was revlon colour stay. I don't think I need something that thick now.

I have tried bare minerals but it made me look shiny yet dead. I've tried other mineral powders but found them crap. I've had a few cheapies here and there but I can't find the one.

I don't really want to spend a fortune if I can help it.

Can anyone help me?

Ive found clinique really good, light but good coverage, oil free, stays matt. Go to the counter they were lovely and not pushy at all

If you haven't tried L'Oréal true match I would give it ago. I have it in a couple of shades depending on whether I have fake tanned.
I have combination skin, oily tzone but can get dry patches on my cheeks and I really like this foundation, seems to last well too.

1moreRep · 16/08/2017 06:47

i like mac and i have similar skin to you or estée lauder

Highlove · 16/08/2017 07:07

I love Laura mercier tinted moisturiser. Light but fab coverage.

I don't even bother with foundation on a night out now, its that great.

You might be better with something specific for your dark circles, plus a foundation. But I generally think less is more foundation-wise.

PETRONELLAS · 16/08/2017 07:13

Bobbi Brown Corrector is excellent on dark circles. The peach is very good for grey/blue bags and the bisque seems just great anyway. The L'Oréal True Match or Bourjois Healthy Mix both have a good range of shades for white skin and are really good. I've got a lot of foundations - in The Search - and rate these. I also go back to my YSL touché eclat foundation.

'Clinique Even Better'. They will colour match you at the counter.

Have tried others but come back to Clinique every time.

Good luck!

Woah are you me 😬 You've literally described my face in your OP. I go for L'Oréal true match for winter (really nice formula, not too thick or too watery, blends well) or MAC lightful for summer (more of a BB cream, evens skin tone without needing thick coverage). I also recommend something that's helping me massively for the sometimes-dry-sometimes-oily skin, which is Body Shop's seaweed oil control overnight gel. It's been great for me as it's definitely made a difference to my skin (used to have a super oily t zone and dry everywhere else 😭) and it's made it much easier to find foundation that works!

HelloSquirrels · 16/08/2017 07:41

Ah thank you all! I will definitely go try all of those! I will take a trip to the body shop too!

Try GOSH foundation drops too Smile

GinGeum · 16/08/2017 07:57

The best one I've found is Chantecaille Just Skin. It is expensive, but I only use a tiny bit because it blends in so well, that I can get away with only putting it on the bad areas, rather than covering my whole face. I just use a concealer for under my eyes and on spots if I need it.

HelloSquirrels · 17/08/2017 18:52

Right I've bought Loreal true match. Will give it a go later and let you know the verdict! If not a success will try another of the suggestions! Thanks everyone!

The Ordinary foundation is great, esp. the Coverage foundation, I also really like the Tarte Amazonian clay foundation.

Also, Dr Jartt BB cream, available at Boots. I love it.

Crummyfunnymummy · 18/08/2017 07:12

I've got oily skin and uneven skin tone and been using Estée Lauder Doublewear which does give good coverage and has so many shades. But I'm wondering if it's a bit heavy for Summer. What would people recommend that's good for oilies like me but not too full? (Sorry to jump on this thread!)

wren23091 · 18/08/2017 08:28

funny, have you tried a BB cream? Good for oily types as less full coverage, more similar to a moisturiser in some cases. Go for quite a light cream rather than a light liquid as you might get separation, and perhaps try a light setting powder dusted over the top. Go quite light though as you don't want to go cakey!

LadyWithLapdog · 18/08/2017 08:33

I like Max foundation, Clinique and Vichy. I find they give the right coverage (I'm not young), easy to apply and not too expensive. I had oilier skin which I saw now getting drier with age.

Crummyfunnymummy · 18/08/2017 10:53

Tried a few. BB creams. All look different be to begin with but the gallons of oil my face seems to produce Shock ensure it goes a bit cakey after a few hours!! The doublewear is good. It rarely goes cakey but I'm wondering about other brands I've heard are good. Laura Mercier. Mac. ?? I tried bare minerals as it had been recommended but it was absolutely awful!

TumbleBee · 18/08/2017 12:10

I've been pleasantly surprised by Rimmel's Wake Me Up foundation. I bought it in an emergency, and have almost used up the whole bottle, something I rarely do with foundation. I've got a bit of pinkness from rosacea and it covers it up nicely while making my skin look even but not cakey. Worth a try for £7 or so.

Crummyfunnymummy · 21/08/2017 20:08

Thanks. I'll give it a try!!

winefixesall · 21/08/2017 20:14

I second that. Plus they have very different types of foundation and gave me 5 or six samples to try at home. I find their antiblemish the best. Pricey but lasts ages.

winefixesall · 21/08/2017 20:15

Sorry...clinique I was referring to

lifeinthecountry · 21/08/2017 20:27

Chantecaille - it gives really good coverage without looking cakey (you can build in layers to get the coverage you want.), gives a really natural finish and lasts well throughout the day. I have very difficult combination skin so most foundations look awful within a couple of hours. It's a bit more expensive but a jar lasts well.
