Need shoes (for my wierdly shaped feet) which I can wear with skirts and dresses

I have a big problem finding shoes to fit my size 8 feet - they are wide but also flat AND I wear orthotics which are tall and wide. (I have accessory navicular so my foot is wide in a weird place.)

I have been wearing Dr Martins desert-style boots as they have a removable insole - sure these aren't "right" for skirts and dresses. It would be nice to have something a bit lighter for work (secondary school admin) and don't need to fit my insoles as I sit down most of the time. They do need to have a bit of

Every time I try on shoes I just end up wanting to cry as my feet are so big wide and ugly and all the styles that look nice at size 4 look awful at size 8. :(

Help??

Whoops. They do need to have a bit of cushioning so cheap ballet flats are out. (But I've never found a ballet flat which is cushioned AND wide enough.)

Brogues? Flatforms? Loafers?

Have you looked at Clarks Unstructured? They do a few differently styles - I have full foot ones, but I'm sure they do Mary Janes and possibly sandals.

They're very cushioned (they're a typical "nurse's shoe") and they do a wide fit.

How about Sneakers, it's more fluid and comfortable to match sneakers to T-shirt. Or slip-ons, black is better.

Google "Hassia Petra pump". They are very wide (G fitting) and deep and are designed to take orthotics as they have a deep removable insole. I know they are expensive, but they are quite rigid; I've been wearing mine for years and they still look new- I Scotch guarded them. They come quite high up the foot. I think they also do the same style with a strap across.

The website Peter Hahn has a lot of orthotic friendly shoes by Hassia, Wadlaufer, Think!, Mephisto and other makes. Some have a mary jane style strap, which you might find easier to wear.

I don't think I can get away with sneakers, really. I think we are supposed to dress better than the students do. :)

I'm wary of the Unstructured shoe because it looks like there's no way to adjust the tightnesss - because my instep is quite low, any shoe that isn't adjustable over the top flops around.

Can I wear brogues with tights/skirts? They would be ideal as lacing is best. I don't know what the rules for shoes are, obviously!

I live in brogues. Clarkes do some excellent colours and they're super comfortable. I've been wearing a metallic pair for theirs for the past two years, and they look great with dresses and skirts.

I feel like mary janes suffer from the "cute at small sizes, awful on my boat feet" effect and thus I haven't found any I like in years.

Have a look at Hotter shoes. Most of their stuff is fugly, but there are 1 or 2 lace up brogue type shoes that might work for you.

kittybiscuits · 15/08/2017 08:02

Also agree - clarks brogues. Pretty much the only shoes I can wear.

ButtonLoon · 15/08/2017 09:04

Ok, I will look at brougues then thank you!

I'm looking at the Clarks Brogues - I might even cross the line and try on the men's ones - I hope they don't give me catsbumface about that but men's shoes often fit me well and they don't actually look very different in the brogues.
