M&S washable suits for teenage boys Sixth Form. Any experience?

I've been recommended these by my dsis (but my dnephew is quite old now!). I wondered if anyone had bought them recently and if they 'work' IYKWIM? Sounds illogical to wash a suit jacket and I worry it will lose its shape or get straggly very quickly.....but it would be sensible.

here

Ds is just about to start sixth form and dress code is suits and ties....

DP has one for short notice work trips when he doesn't have time to go to the dry cleaner with a suit. It washes fairly well and I think it looks quite smart on. You can tell it isn't an expensive suit, but it doesn't look all shiny and teflon coated (I was imagining a suit made out of school trouser fabric). We still use a wool wash setting for it just in case, hasn't lost its shape yet.

I'm not sure how robust it would be for daily wear but the fabric seems fairly good quality.

Thanks, Dandelion..... does seem logical due to general teenage boy mess and cost of dry cleaning......

DS2 has the washable ones from Next and they are fantastic. He has 2 jackets and 4 trousers and they still look pristine after 1 year of 6th form - heavy use, stored in floordrobe. He destroys clothing so the fact that these have survived has been a revelation. He is very slim so the sizing is good too.

The school shirts from there don't wash up particularly well imo. I have no idea about the suits but the shirts ends up looking washed out really rapidly (not that that's much help, sorry!)

Pookie that's good to know. The one suit he has ever had was from Next and I really liked the cut and the staff were super helpful there too.

Sounds same boy, tall, slim, floordrobe!

I had 2 DSs go through sixth form wearing suits. DS1 utterly trashed the suits I bought him for junior sixth and I then switched over to buying cheap washable suits from m&s and asos which looked no less presentable and lasted better. It was an all boys school so I think they still sometimes played football in the yard which is quite hard on a suit!

Depending on the height and skinniness of your DS you may find asos has better sizes (DS2 28 inch waist and 6ft 2 started off with m and s but then they seemed to stop making them in 28 with a long enough inside leg.) Also if your DS is tall and skinny buy a dinner suit when you see one that fits regardless of cost or come leavers ball time you will spend more time on a search than you would ever expect!

They are fine , the trick is to wash them on their own and hang straight away. Ideally use a liquid detergent so no residue is left on them . They really do wash very well and even if you bought 2 or 3 you would save money on dry cleaning and it would be more hygienic getting the trousers washed more often !

M&S were very good on fitting when we bought ones. Get 2 pairs of trousers as they will wear them out more quickly than the jacket - good advice they gave us
