Clothes that flatter me or clothes I like? (Some pics)

I wear a lot of skirts because I need to lose weight and trousers aren't good.

I wear quite "pretty" flared skirts like the first one attached with plain fitted tops because that's what suits my shape. With sandals or tights and jumpers in winter.

The things I actually like probably aren't the most flattering.

I like Cos but I'm not the size or shape for their clothes. I'll link below the outfit Id choose.

I also like the jacket linked but again it's not the shape I should wear. And very casual.

Where's the skirt in the 2nd pic from. I like that.

stupidcoldfeet · 12/08/2017 20:24

Love the second outfit. I wear stuff I love. It's not always 'flattering '- i.e. Often makes me look fatter than I am- however, when I dress like this I look like Me and I feel all edgy and cool. Grin if I wear fitted 'flattering' stuff I feel total frumpsville

SilentBob · 12/08/2017 20:35

Clothes you like. Do it, feel liberated and wonder why you didn't do it a long long time ago!!

Blondielongie · 12/08/2017 20:40

I'm not even going to look it up. It looks expensive. But gorgeous.

How would you wear it in the winter? What shoes?

Owlettecatboy · 12/08/2017 20:44

I love them all! Where is the first skirt from?

Sparkletastic · 12/08/2017 20:47

That second outfit is everything

museumum · 12/08/2017 20:49

I am always told to wear a v or scoop neck and "cinch" my waist (am an hour glass) but it's just not me. High neck shift is me Grin

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/08/2017 20:49

Definitely go for the skirt you love. Wear it with your most flattering cut of top and nobody will think anything of it.

stupidcoldfeet · 12/08/2017 20:56

Thanks for opinions. Yes I felt "cool" in the second outfit. Although I tried on a slightly different top.

And i feel frumpy in my pretty stuff which is mainly boden. First skirt is boden and very reduced just now Owlette. I'm sure it's not frumpy on everyone Smile

Maybe its a midlife crisis or 40 year old rebellion. I'm fed up being ladylike.

I think it was £70 Blondie. I am a bit skint but tend to just buy a few things and wear them lots.

Don't know about winter. I have plain black lace ups, ankle boots or trainers.

That Cos outfit is lovely! I don't see why that skirt and a slouchy jumper wouldn't suit anyone, no matter what size they were! id wear it over leggings and ankle boots in winter, whoever asked - and I loathe when people put leggings under A line dresses to hide their legs (just wear tights!), but this looks like the only skirt ever I think would be nice with leggings.

stupidcoldfeet · 18/08/2017 16:44

Cos skirt bought Smile
Ta MN.

I am an apple but I do wear some Cos stuff. I have a lovely white top on at the moment very asymmetrical - wouold look even better with a decent bra - note to self!

FinallyDecidedOnUserName · 19/08/2017 19:10

Love that skirt

LoniceraJaponica · 19/08/2017 19:12

I am in a minority here, but I really don't like the shapelessness of the second outfit.

KittyWindbag · 20/08/2017 16:20

Wear clothes you like, every time! The concept of flattering is so diminishing. Intended to make you look - what - thinner? If you're not thin, you're not thin. Who gives a damn. Rather wear something fun or stylish that makes me feel awesome than a 'flattering' outfit designed to hide me.

LoniceraJaponica · 20/08/2017 18:42

I tend to like clothes that flatter me. They make me feel good.

Floisme · 20/08/2017 19:04

I don't think you should have to choose. The right clothes should suit your body and make you feel good. If they don't do both then, as far as I'm concerned, they're not really flattering. It shouldn't just be a synonym for 'makes you look thinner' - or younger.

burnishedsilver · 20/08/2017 19:11

Hmmm.

It's hard to feel good in clothes that don't flatter you. They'll end up not worn very much. I don't see the point in having lovely clothes that you don't wear. You need to find clothes you love that do flatter you. It might require a change in mindset or stepping out of your comfort zone. Something that doesn't flatter you will make you feel like shit no matter how much you love it.

burnishedsilver · 20/08/2017 19:15

I love yellow but I look sick in yellow. I really can't feel good while looking sick.

lynmilne65 · 20/08/2017 19:20

Am not sure I own a skirt !

Floisme · 20/08/2017 19:23

The thing is, we (and this includes me) use 'flattering' a lot on S&B but it's not really based on anything factual. It's really just opinion and often it's heavily influenced by what's in fashion.

Take high waisted trousers: when they're in fashion, we're told they're flattering because they elongate your legs and give you a great silhouette. When they're out of fashion, they're hideous things that make your arse look bigger. Both can be true. You've got to make your own mind up about which makes you feel good.

redrobinblue · 20/08/2017 19:23

well OP, thanks to you some more of my money has found it's way to Cos!
