Wide legged trousers for wedding (guest)?

We've been invited to a wedding (or at least, we've been told we're going to be - it's a few months away) and I'm already stressing about what to wear. To explain: as well as being a bit overweight (14-16) I can't wear dresses, skirts or high heels due to a medical condition that makes my legs and feet swell, so I live in wide legged trousers, brogues and boys' trainers.

I'm lucky that wide-leg trousers are back at the moment - the fashion for skinnies has been a nightmare - but the ones I've seen so far have mainly been nasty polyester suiting material and I think maybe that along with colours available (black, navy) have made them look more like workwear than wedding guest. A few years ago I wore cream linen wide-legs with cream brogues and a silk top to a summer wedding so I think I'm looking for a winter equivalent, although I think this wedding is more formal than that was. Maybe even a trouser suit, again as long as it doesn't look like I'm going to a meeting rather than a wedding. Not sure what exactly I'm after other than that but think I'll know it when I see it, iykwim, and would very much appreciate suggestions of where to start looking as I don't shop often and stick with the same casual clothing shops in the main.

Budget wise, probably up to £80-90 for the trousers, more for a suit of course, up to £80 for the shoes too unless I could wear them a lot afterwards. Not averse to secondhand or online only, as long as it can be returned and refunded if it doesn't work when I try it on. Thank you!

Will investigate jumpsuits but have always been put off by the need to strip them off when using the loo and the assumption you have to be willowy (which I'm most definitely not.)

Maybe not willowy but in my opinion you need to be over about 5'6" if you're not wearing heels.

Can I suggest you take your focus off the trousers and on to the top. I think this is the bit people 'see' and when you are sitting it is actually all they see. I am larger than you and have psoriasis on my legs so don't wear dresses. I wear some good plain black or navy trousers and then splash out on top. Don't go out of your comfort zone otherwise you will be miserable. A wedding I went to recently the bride's mother wore black trousers so no one will frown iyswim.

Oh a nice dressy type flats.

BubblesBuddy · 13/08/2017 11:36

Would a wide legged jump suit work? These are spot on at the moment and can be dressed up very easily. Dark navy, purple etc but not too ditsy floral. Suits can look a bit like office wear.

Black wide leg trousers would look very elegant and dressy with something like this www.houseoffraser.co.uk/women/linea-cleo-tie-front-top/d803907.pd#270060721

girl I don't take mine off - the wide legs mean there is room to move them to the side Grin

I'm 5ft 5 1/2 and not willowy but do wear heels - I'm not good in heeled shoes so usually wear pointed spiky heeled ankle boots.

SummerSazz · 13/08/2017 12:47

These are nice to go with a jumpsuit or trousers

Wear a maxi dress. More options and won't obstruct your legs etc. You could even get away with jewelled flats or at least comfy flats with some decoration on them.

Also have a look at Asos. Lots of options and very easy returns (post or collect plus).
