Forward helix piercing

Hello!

I'm looking for experience of forward helix piercing, please? I'm reading online that it's particularly painful. I had a daith piercing 12 weeks ago, and aside from nipping a bit that day, it's been grand and healed nicely.

Is a forward helix much worse? Best to be prepared and all that...

Thanks.

I've got one. Not much to compare it with as I only have lobe piercings from when i was younger, but it wasn't particularly painful to have done. A bit sore afterwards and sleeping was a challenge as I stupidly had it done on the side I sleep on. It's hard to clean round the back of it and i can't change the jewellery myself, I have to go to a piercing place if I fancy a change or a good clean. Other than that I love it!

I've got one and it wasn't massively painful and it healed really easily :)

Bobbiepin · 10/08/2017 21:10

I wouldn't expect it to be much more painful than a daith. Depending on your anatomy the daith would likely be thicker cartilage but the helix would be more likely to catch on hair, towels, hairbrushes etc.

I have 3 (all lined up) and I wouldn't say it was particularly painful. I had my tragus done first and that felt worse. I've never had any problems, all healed up nicely! Just make sure that you look after it properly when it's healing up and you'll be grand! Smile

CremeDeSudo · 10/08/2017 21:30

I had one too. I got fed up with my hair catching on it! I don't remember it causing any probs when healing. Having my conch done was way worse and took ages!

GrimDamnFanjo · 10/08/2017 22:18

I have one - I had a bad experience as the piercer didn't do it quite right and I had the dreaded bump :( another piercer managed to save it and its ok now. I have a helix and two conches - I think once you've had a piercing then you know what to expect.
You'll be fine - just make sure you get a skilled piercer and take into account if you may want a double/triple if anatomy permits in the future so the piercer takes this into account and leaves room!

Thanks everyone. Sounds much more managable than the online horror stories!

No issues with hair being caught thankfully, as I've a pixie cut, but I hadn't thought about how rough I am when I towel dry my hair...

I'll be wishing the twelve weeks away to get the bar out and a nice wee labret in.

Thanks again.

Can I just jump in. I'm wanting a similar piercing too but I'm worried I'm going to stand out like a sore thumb in the tattoo and piercing shop as I've never been in one before Blush

UnicornsandRainbows1 · 10/08/2017 23:00

@khajiit13 Don't forget that everyone needs to start somewhere. They deal with many people who have never had a piercing or tattoo before Smile And in my experience the piercers have always been super nice Smile

TallulahBetty · 10/08/2017 23:07

I have a double forward helix and it's healed really well. The pain is nothing like a daith (that was the worst one for me out of a few).

Bobbiepin · 10/08/2017 23:50

I would advice a BCR to start with rather than a bar, much less likely to have problems with swelling.

khajiit13 · 11/08/2017 19:31

Thank you unicorn 😊

Sinclair3 · 11/08/2017 20:10

Thank you! I'll take advice on the bar bobbiepin. My friend and I are both going tomorrow now. You have reassured me!

Bit of a nip and uncomfortable for a bit when sleeping but definitely nothing to put you off. Planning on getting triple if I have enough room...

Asiaticlily · 11/08/2017 21:06

I have a double forward helix. It took quite a while to heal but that could be because I had two at once!

It also gets caught in my hair but I'm used to it now and it looks nice ☺️

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 11/08/2017 21:31

khajiit I took my DD to have her tragus done last week ( I was going in to have mine done but the time wasn't right for me , she'd nagged me to ask about her ). Proper Tattoo/Piercer, opaque windows and all the 'No Under 18' signs for tattooes.

Outside were leatherclad hairy blokes round a motorbike , I thought "Feck , no way am I going in there........"
It was fine Smile

furrymuff · 11/08/2017 21:32

I had one done about 5 months ago. It has taken a long time to heal, much more than I had imagined! But in the last week or so it's finally stopped hurting and I can sleep on it - yay!

Sinclair3 · 12/08/2017 15:06

Successfully pierced this lunchtime. Wee nip with the clamp but otherwise totally fine.

I've got a barbell, and can change after 12 weeks. Thanks for all the replies!

My daughter got her triple forward helix done, said getting her loves pierced was worse!
Only issue we had was getting all 3 done at once, they went in at a funny angle and got infected so had to take them out.
She's getting them done one at a time next, the ones she had in were so large as they expected swelling so she ended up with the nickname 'screws' at school for a while Grin

Good luck!
