Babyliss Big Hair - Please Help!

newusernamefornow · 10/08/2017 15:06

I bought a Babyliss Big Hair after seeing recommendations on MN.
Used it for the first time this morning, hair was 90% dry. It looked fab at first, bouncy with flicky ends, but it flopped within an hour or two and is now just hanging and straight and lank again.

What have I done wrong please, devotees of the BBH?

I use mine everyday.
A little product and hair spray x

I did try hair spray - what product do you use?

Wondering whether perhaps my hair is just too fine for it to work well?

I tried mine for the first day too and it was a complete disaster!

I have curly hair and it looks fab after a cut and blow dry straight - all sleek and smooth. I thought this would be good to replicate the look as I can't seem to manage both hairdryer and round brush technique they use.

Oh Lordy, it's a mess. The top is fine and nice and straight but the mid-lengths to ends are a frizzy, curly bush.

I think I may have overused it in each section.

BBH always gives me An the a Turner hair. I just cannot get it to do anything else.

insertimaginativeusername · 10/08/2017 17:18

Dry hair upside down first with some volumising spray before using the brush.big hair for a good while but it does relax...! Try looking at YouTube for technique.

clickhappy · 10/08/2017 17:25

It may not have been completely dry. Also set the style afterwards with cold air - on the dryer or stand in front of the open freezer door like I do x

Mine flops too, but it does after the hairdressers too.

You only have to look on ebay to see that this product is not very successful. You have to laugh at the promotion video showing a model with already perfect hair having it styled by a hairdresser. The hair can also get tangled up in the brush. I agree it does not hold the style and you get a frizzy halo effect. No amount of product can correct that.

Flimp · 10/08/2017 17:26

you need some product, probably a volumising mousse or something like that.

WipsGlitter · 10/08/2017 17:35

I LOVE mine. It changed my life. I dry my hair first and then BBH it when it's still soft (I've very think hair). Did you section it??

Liiinoo · 10/08/2017 19:12

I get great results that last 2/3 days. I dry upside down/parted wrong way first, add volumising product at roots when about 50% dry. Then dry some more using a large bristle brush for height. Last 10% is the BBH on small sections for movement, finishing each section with a cold blast and carefully unwinding.

Liiinoo · 10/08/2017 19:13

I should add that it took practice to get it just right and I do use it more as a finishing tool than the main blowdry.

newusernamefornow · 10/08/2017 20:50

Thanks everyone. Watched the YouTube tutorial and it did go well at first, it just didn't hold. I will try with both some mousse and then with some volumising spray and see how it goes.

So far the results are nowhere near as good as what I'd get from rollers though. Hoping I can get to the bottom of it and get me some Kate Middleton hair!

Took me a few attempts to get the hang of it but now I can't be without it.

SmartyPants0 · 11/08/2017 09:01

I love mine... I tend to dry my hsir snd then finish with the BBC. .. alway leaves my hair sleek and swishy.
Make sure you use a product on your hair and that you are actually drying the roots of your hair as well. (Very very important to dry the roots IMO)
How ong are your layers in your hair?

OlennasWimple · 11/08/2017 09:04

Yy to making sure you get right to the roots.

And practice makes perfect - when I first got mine I hated it, thought i had made a big mistake. Now I love it

What products do people recommend using with BBH. I had one a couple of years ago it was brilliant at first but then my hair began too look too dried out. I have naturally curly quite dry hair. Anyway my BBH gave up the ghost and I reverted to the naturally curly look but I am thinking about getting another BBH as cheaper than a trip to the hairdressers if having a night out. I need advice on good products. Thanks

LoveInTokyo · 07/08/2018 10:55

Almost completely dry your hair with a normal hairdryer first. Do it in small sections and keep the sections you've done away from the sections you haven't done. Mist each section with hairspray after you've done it. Try not to touch it too much once it's done.

spanishwife · 07/08/2018 11:02

you need to let the 'curl/wave' set - I would recommend pulling it back into the shape after it's out of the brush and pinning it back onto your head. Then get on with something else like your makeup, and take it down after.

winterisstillcoming · 07/08/2018 17:00

I know this is an old thread but I use kerastase oleo relax oil in my hair when it's wet and it smooths the ends nicely. Also consider olaplex if your hair is getting damaged by heat/colouring.

bingohandjob · 07/08/2018 17:33

I've not fine hair and use a BBH - personally, if I rush it, it doesn't hold but if I take a bit of time and do it section by section, it holds really well. I use a spritz of any old heat protecting spray. In this heat nothing is holding particularly well. My face looks like a puddle and I've just been tying my hair back out of the way Shock

Waltzingmatilda65 · 07/08/2018 17:42

Thanks all. Yes I have a weekend away coming up and don’t wanted something a bit special othe than my natural curly mop. The BBH when I first got it used to give me salon finished hair. Then my hair got too dry with it and it wasn’t a good look.

WhoKnowsWereTheTimeG0es · 07/08/2018 17:58

Mine works really well, but the finished look doesn't really suit me, the sleek swooshy style is really aging on me. I like how it feels when I turn my head and it bounces but not the look.
