Hi ladies,

I'm 54 years of age and have always hated my crooked teeth. I have had veneers etc over the years but have finally bitten the bullet and made an appointment to be considered for an Invisalign brace. Has anyone here had this treatment? Am I too old/vain? How did wearing one affect your social life - dining out etc - as I've heard you should keep them in for 22 hours out of 24? Is it very painful? I'm encouraged to try because they appear to be very discreet and by changing the brace every so often you can see the results quite quickly too. Are there any pitfalls I should look out for? I'm happy with the orthodontist I'm going to see - he's part of the private practice I've been attending for over 20 years. Sorry for so many questions........but it's taken me years to even pluck up courage to make the initial appointment......
Thanks everyone! 😀

Hi. I'm near the end of my treatment now after around 18 months. I'm 31, always hated my teeth too so totally hear where you're coming from.

They hurt at first for a few days while the teeth started moving but then just a bit of tenderness when you change trays, sometimes more sometimes less. It goes quickly. Yes, they are a pain to take out and put back in again but you get used to it. I don't think I've ever left them in for 22 hours (shh) , usually more like 20. But I snack a lot so that's why! My teeth look really nice now, I'm glad I did it although I sometimes think a fixed brace would have been a heck of a lot easier. I've got a fixed brace on the bottom and it's way less hassle.

Thank you, that is reassuring. My daughters both had the fixed train track braces - but they were actually a fashion item for them at the time! Can I ask if you had to take anything for the pain or is it something you put up with? I remember my girls were ok pain wise, but initially they used Bonjela on the area as needed. X
