Fat upper arms

I'm in need of some blouses for work. I'm a 10/12 bit have disproportionately large upper arms so I prefer longer sleeves to cover them, but struggle to find ones that fit.

Can anyone recommend any good shops for those of us with this problem?

You could try losing weight overall and doing exercise to tone the muscles.

I think lots of clothing brands are cut really small on the arms and under arms. So I'd avoid the younger high street brands like Zara.

I think you have to have a good look at the sleeve styles as well as some are more likely to be accommodating. E.g. Raglan sleeves will generally be wider than a set in sleeve. Also set in sleeves with gathers at the top are likely to be wider too.

A set in sleeve is set into the body at the shoulder whereas a raglan sleeve is is attached from under the arm hole to the neck. Probably explaining badly.

Also batwing styles.

Lenl · 08/08/2017 18:34

PollyPerky I'm sure that's never crossed her mind Hmm

Sorry last post, so shop by sleeve style rather than brand.

Squashit · 08/08/2017 18:37

White Company cut their clothes properly.

I think batwings can look worse but there are a lot of styles that come to elbow and flare out just now, quite flattering. I bought some at asda and bonmarche

Whatever you do avoid bloody batwing style shirts.

They make supermodels look to have big arms.

Real helpful polly Confused And FWIW I still have big arms at a size 8 so losing weight doesn't always help!

TheDinnerWitch · 09/08/2017 01:46

Um Polly... the OP was asking for STYLE advice, to do with sleeves, not super-fucking-obvious life advice Hmm

habibihabibi · 09/08/2017 01:55

Uniqlo surprisingly as it is an Asian concept store has quite generously cut sleeves. Also Banana Republic and Gap .
Avoid Zara as they make sleeves like straws.
I have enormously disproportionate upper arms and even when v thin and v fit they are huge.
It gives me a complex which is never helped by comments like Polly's.

Even as a skinny size 6 teen I struggled with arms, and as a 5'8 size 12, I don't feel I need to lose any weight, but thank you for your oh so helpful advise.

I'll check out the shops / styles suggested, thank you everyone else!

Next arms tend to come up wide, also M&S Autograph (although the collection at the moment is not that great). For cheap bits, have a root around H&M as their clothes come in all sorts of random shapes and sizes.

Have you tried Primark? I bought some lovely shirts there earlier this year, they've washed really well too.
