Retinoid 2% and Hyaluronic Serum - what order should I use them in? Please help, total novice!

My current routine is to remove my mascara with the L'Oreal waterproof makeup remover, then wash with Superdrug Naturally Radiant Creme wash, then Clearasil 5 in 1 pads, then cheap Aldis Night cream.
I have just bough some Advanced Retinoid 2% serum and some Hadalabo Hyaluronic solution, as well as some Nivea soft (white pot) and some spf 50 face cream (as recommended on here).
Please could somebody now tell me the best order to use all my bits and bobs in? Should I use the retinoid serum every day/night? And the Hyaluronic solution? Should i use them together or alternate them? Any other products anybody would recommend I get to use in combination?

If it's any help I use my retinoid every other day and then after an hour or so I apply my hyaluronic acid product. You could then apply your moisturiser if you wanted or you could skip the hyaluronic acid and use just your moisturiser. Depends on how dry your skin is on the day.

Retinoid then hyaluronic acid then moisturiser

I would advise you not to use your clearasil pads before using your retinoid, it will be too harsh for your skin.
Use the clearasil pads on the alternate nights and only till your skin clears up then stop, using them.

Retinoid at night. Try every three days for a couple of weeks to see how your skin reacts, if it copes without going dry and flakey then up to every other night. Eventually you may want to use it every night but everyone reacts differently. Nivea on nights when you're not using the retinoid and possibly over the retinoid as well (try to have at least a 30 min gap after applying the retinoid if you do this). Hadalabo in the mornings, let it sink in then spf (some people will say to reverse this but this is how it works best for me).

Try this routine for a month and see how it works for you. Don't buy more stuff because someone is raving about it, wait and see how your skin reacts and what issues you need to address first before adding anything else to your routine.

Yes always apply retinoid in the evenings, my post wasn't clear on that point.

OP, just saw your post on the other thread Smile
That's definitely the hyaluronic serum I use. I'm currently in Majorca in the middle of a heatwave, and my skin has not dried out at all. It's remarkably plump and glowy, which is a miracle for me, please believe me!
I just love it so much.

My routine is very much personalised for my oily, yet dehydrated skin. Prone to rosacea/acne flare ups - and the bane of my life.

I cleanse using cetaphil. After a long day, I can feel whiteheads/tightness/tingly rosacea flaring up - take your pick! This calms and cleanses. The relief as I slap it on, is immense. I double cleanse using this, or sometimes use olive oil/coconut oil.

I then use my nip and fab glycolic pads every night. They smooth and soothe. They do not irritate my skin at all using daily, even the extreme glycolic pads.

Next, I apply the hyaluronic serum (Hada labo). I have tried the Ordinary's one, it was ok, just less of it in the bottle and a bit too sticky.
I also like cosrx snail essence, as this soothes, especially at the end of the day.
Sometimes I layer them together. Smile

I then moisturise with the Ordinary's moisturiser, clinique dramatically different moisturiser or none at all. Using the serums has reduced my need for them tbh.

I may apply a drop of the Ordinary's squalene oil, it leaves the skin velvety smooth.

I then apply the 2% retinoid on top as the last step. I use it like this, as my skin can react if it's being a bit troublesome. This way ensures that no irritation happens. The serum/moisturiser/oils all act as a buffer.

The retinoid still has an effect, especially on my pores, smoothness and reduced redness. My skin is also ultra smooth, even with no thick, greasy creams used.

If my skin is very dry I may use Mizon's snail recovery gel cream. This leaves my skin so glowy and plump, without blocking those dreaded pores.

I also love the Hada labo sheet masks. Used after cleansing and the hyaluronic serum - leaves you with babysoft skin.
So soft, I cannot stop stroking it.

Sorry for the long post! Hope it helped (and didn't confuse you). Smile

Beautifully thank you so much for taking the time, especially on your holiday! Your skin sounds similar to mine so that's super helpful. I have ordered both the Hada Labo hyaluronic and the 2% retinoid, massive thanks for the other recommendations too.
Enjoy the rest of your holiday not jealous at all Smile

Please use a high spf during the day if you are using retinol

justkeeponsmiling · 08/08/2017 09:51

Thanks Apple I have also invested in a good (I hope) facial sunscreen.
